Please note that the Northern District Tournament on Jan 14 and 15 is also for All Pros as well as All Amateurs. They will be using all the courts so we need lots of volunteers to sign up. Thanks
Mary Harlow is back so “Scoring” has started. “Scoring” play started last Saturday but because “Fun Day” will be held this Saturday (Jan. 9th), “Scoring” play will not be held. You can make up your missed scores on Saturday the 16th.
Please be sure to sign up (at the club house) for the Jan 9th “Fun Day” by Thursday (Jan. 7th) so that we can provide food for willing participants.
January 14th and 15th will be the Northern District Tournament for “Any Amateurs” so we will need volunteers to help set up the courts, wax the discs and add more beads to the courts as needed. The sign up sheet is in the clubhouse.
Well, today was clear, blustery and a unseasonably cool. A near perfect day to work on our shuffleboard courts. Eighteen (18) people volunteered and showed up at 8:00 am to wash, wax and clean the courts. Marguerite and Paul are back, so we were greeted with hot coffee and donuts. Marguerite set to work getting “her” kitchen in order. Joan, Connie and Mary went right to work washing the score board stations and cleaning up the benches while Daryl swept out the club house. All the rest of us swept, washed and waxed all 20 courts. We were able to finish up by 10:30 am because there were so many of us who had volunteered. The club would like to thank all the volunteers for keeping our club in shipshape condition. We are grateful to Allen and Joan Best, Arden and Mary McConnell, Marguerite and Paul Fortier, Bonnie and Randy Radke, Connie Bousquet, Wayne Lockwood, Darrel Harman, Felix Piscitelli, Bob Stock, Ted Hauptmann, John Fortini, Bill Boyes , Jean Tardif and Joey Shebester for all your support and hard-work.
This is a reminder that Tuesday January 5th at 8:00 AM We will be cleaning, washing and scrubbing the courts and then applying a coat of wax. We need volunteers to come help out. Men and Women are both welcome. If you do not want to scrub the courts we can use help cleaning the score boards and sweeping up the club house. Time to prepare for all the Upcoming Events. Fireworks launched from the CM Shuffleboard courts on New Years Eve to welcome in the New Year – 2016. The Coronado/Mainland Shuffleboard Club wishes everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Bob Finta, who is 78 years young, has been a very active member of the CM Shuffleboard Club for over 22 years. During his tenure, Bob has been President, Vice President, a board member liaison for more than 15 years and now Secretary. Bob grew up in New York City and was a 6th grade school teacher for 33 years. He met and married his college sweetheart, Carol, 57 years ago. They have two children, one is a math teacher and the other is a computer programmer. Bob, a Pro since ’94, used to give shuffleboard lessons, but for now, he is more than happy to give helpful pointers on shuffleboard to anyone who may ask. Thank you Bob for all you have done and continue to do to support the CM Shuffleboard Club, it is greatly appreciated!
Today we had our Christmas Pot Luck Dinner and celebrated the end of a very successful year under the leadership of our President Allen Best. The beautifully laid out decorations contained Poinsettias, flashing Santa Clause hats, Sleighs and Christmas place mats. The club supplied a scrumptious ham complementing the extra varied and delicious side dishes (and desserts) supplied by the attendees. Joan Best conducted the dinner blessing and organized the 50/50 drawing which was won by our guest Kimla Shelton. Allen Best presented Betty Buccini a personalized apron for all the important work she does as Treasurer for the club. Allen Best introduced our guests, Liz Yancy and Kimla Shelton, from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department to thank them, on behalf of the club, for all the help they gave us over the past year. Santa also left a little something for each of them. Debbie Evans presented Allen with a jar of “Hillbilly Whup-Ass!” because he used all of his up (on Debbie and Bonnie) at the Senior Games. John Fortini, speaking for the club members, gave recognition, appreciation and thanks to Allen Best for all he has done this year in leading the CMS Club. The dinner was very festive and after the clean up, some of the members stayed to play Bunko. Here is wishing all of you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR. See you all at the courts next year.
I still have been unable to attend a Fun Day, but I have some pictures and some results. The day looked beautiful and sunny and everyone was in good cheer. Of all the teams the results were: First place was Arden’s team with Rex, Joe, and Terry. Second place was Connie’s team with Wayne, Sid and our newest member Marty. Third place was Joan’s team with Roland, Debbie and Bill. Hopefully I will be able to attend next month’s Fun Day on January 9th and will see you there!
Just a reminder that this Friday, Dec 18, is our Christmas Pot Luck Dinner. It would be appreciated if you could sign up in the club house on the list by Wednesday in order for the club to know how much meat (HAM, which the club is supplying) needs to be ordered and so that we do not have too many duplications. See you there to share some holiday cheer.
