A good representation of CM Shuffleboard Club members attended the Chamber of Commerce Retirement Reception for Liz Yancey. The reception was packed with people acquainted with Liz and her 38 years of dedication to the New Smyrna Beach community. There was a festive atmosphere with a lot of tasty treats. It was a great feeling to be there to see Liz enjoying the evening with all her friends.
Thursday Morning Four-Play started out sunny and ended before the noon heat was dialed up. Event Director Ron Raymond and his volunteers arrived early to prep eight courts for competitive play. Thirty-two (32) avid players showed up to challenge each other in a friendly game of shuffleboard. This was also the last time to shuffle for many of our seasonal snow-bird players before returning back north. We hope for all of them to have a safe journey. So once again, we have three shufflers who won all four of their matches; Walt, Ron, and Rex. Congratulations!
Note: All of our members and players are invited to attend the retirement reception for Liz Yancey at the Chamber of Commerce on Canal Street tonight from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm. Afterwards members may want to participate in a game of shuffleboard under the lights which will commence at 6:30 pm.

The CM Shuffleboard Club would like to extend a big THANK YOU to Deb and Durl Evans for their donation of a refrigerator and microwave for the clubhouse kitchen. The appliances we had were on their last legs. We would also like to give a shout-out to the volunteers who helped to move these appliances from the Evans home to the Club House. Tom Grubb brought his truck while John Fortini, Joe Shebester and Rich Kordeleski supplied the brawn.

While we played shuffleboard on Sunday morning, our loudly crowing local free-ranging roosters strutted their stuff across the courts right into the clubhouse. They kind of reminded me of our four Pros (Charlie, Dennis, Pete”The Hammer” and Tom) who come by to play shuffleboard every Sunday morning. We might want to consider making the roosters our unofficial mascots because they sometimes imitate some of the CMS Club’s most enjoyable qualities in being spirited, carefree, boisterous and humorous.
The City of New Smyrna Beach is hosting a Retirement Reception Honoring Liz Yancey. She has been a very good friend to the CM Shuffleboard Club for many years and is celebrating 38 years of dedication and hard work for the Citizens of New Smyrna Beach. The reception is free and open to the public and will be held on Thursday, April 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce on 115 Canal Street in New Smyrna Beach. The CM Shuffleboard Club would like to thank her for all the support and encouragement she gave our club during her tenure as the New Smyrna Beach Recreation and Special Event Director. The Thursday morning Four-Play was played in a wonderful “10” plus weather day. Another shout-out to those volunteers who showed up early to cleanup and prep the courts for todays event. Thirty-six (36) committed players showed up to have some fun and participate in the challenging matches. The following three (3) Pro players were able to win all four of their matches; Tom Rimmer, Darrel Harman and Pete“The Hammer” Peterson. We all had a good time mixing it up with and against Pro and Amateur players. Remember, a Pro is just an Amateur having an outstanding day. See y’all next week for more fun and games. Ciao!

Coronado/Mainland Shuffleboard Club members in New Smyrna Beach are shuffling “under the lights” at 6:30 pm every Tuesday and Thursday night on the the Historic courts of this Local Landmark located on Flagler Avenue. It is not uncommon for the local foot traffiic to stop and watch the entertaining and friendly competition among club members as they demonstrate their skill and strategy. Shuffleboard brings men and women together to play on the same teams or as opponents. We welcome new members. http://www.cmshuffleboard.org.
This was the last Pot Luck Dinner before our remaining Snow Birds begin heading back home. We have a few tentative Pot Luck Dinners scheduled during the summer in which we expect a significantly smaller turn-out. Members and guests started arriving at 5:00 pm to socialize while we waited for everyone (Approx. 30) to arrive for our 5:30 dinner. We were joined by Allen Best’s parents and Rex Galusha’s mom, who brought an adorable hatch of deviled egg chicks. Allen thanked everyone for coming with their culinary creations and hoped for them all to have a safe journey back home. Joan led us in giving thanks in all circumstances through the dinner prayer. The food was scrumptious and everyone had a delightful time. Many felt a little melancholy as we said our last goodbyes till we all can meet again next season. The evening ended quietly as we departed into the sunset. Pleasant memories will never diminish……. Hasta la vista !
After raining all night, a few CMS Club volunteers came out early to clear away the rain drenched courts in order to get them ready for Thursday Morning Four-Play. Twenty-Nine (29) avid players showed up to challenge each other in a friendly game of shuffleboard. The competition was really tough with nine (9) players winning three of their four matches but only three of them, Charlie, Dee and Tom, won all four. Come join us next week to meet the good-natured challenge of playing alongside your fellow shufflers.
