Mouse has recently been missed at CMS Club activities due to a leg injury that may limit his mobility till March. He is missed because of his superior play and ability to make us lighten up and laugh by throwing out humorous one-liners that are sometimes self-deprecating. GET WELL SOON MOUSE!

CMS Club Fun Day – Jan 21, 2017

CMS Club Fun Day started at noon with a social  and Hot Dog lunch. Rich and his crew set up all twenty courts with their designated obstacles while Allen organized the team playing sheets and Joan collected for the 50/50 raffle. Marguerite and Paul set up the coffee, tea and a Gorgeous Cake (thank you Marguerite, it was delicious). Barb Fortini registered the players, collected the $1.00 entry fee and then began to dole out the Hot Dogs and chips with the help of Joan. Barb Fortini also drew the 50/50 raffle ticket and Bob Tager was the lucky winner.  Forty-six (46) enthusiastic club shufflers joined in the fun competition to see which team could score the highest.

The Top Winning Team was Joan Best, Felix, Jean Tardif and Floyd Conley with a score of 1290. The Second Team was Bonnie, Darrel and Dave with a score of 1200. The Third Team was Don, Jim, John Zwolak and Joe Shebester (Did not stay for pictures) with a score of 1080. At the end of play, Allen passed out the winnings so as to have every team get a little bit of the Entry Fee Purse. All in all it was a great day with a whole lot of friendly competition. Darrel had the Highest Individual Score with 380 followed by Bonnie with 370 and then Bob Tager with 360.   Please plan to come join us next month for some more friendly competition and lots of FUN.

The Masters Tournament – March 23rd, 2017

This year the Northern District’s Masters Tournament will be held on the CMS Club courts on Thursday, March 23rd beginning at 8:30 am. The player participants are some of the best shufflers from around the Northern District who will be competing for recognition and achievement. We would like to have volunteers to not only set up the courts before and during play, but also to push and call out the scores.

Only the Top 8 players in each category (Pro, Amateurs, Women and Men) will compete against each other, two at a time, so a pusher will be needed on each court to keep score and send the discs back. All players and volunteers will also be eligible to participate in the Banquet Dinner to be held on Friday night, March 24th, at Quail Hollow. Stan Williamson will be our gracious host. Please sign up in the cue house to help in this exciting event which so happens to be taking place during our club’s 80th Anniversary Year. Spectators are welcomed.

Mayor’s Tournament – February 7th at 8:30am

Just a reminder that the Mayor’s Tournament is February 7th beginning at 8:30 am. We would like to have as many members as we can get to show up and participate in the fun. The more people we have the better our city support will be. Even if you do not play in the tournament, we need lots of spectators to show club participation. We also will need some people to volunteer to clean the courts, wax the discs and generally keep the game going. We appreciate and need all our volunteers. Please sign up in the cue house to help.  Without our volunteers this club cannot function.

January Pot Luck Dinner – 1/20/17

Last night we had our first Pot Luck Dinner for 2017, our 80th Anniversary Year. Around forty (40) famished club members met to socialize and savor the culinary delights. Paul, Marguerite, John and Barb were the first on the scene. The tables had been all set-up. Coffee, lemonade and tea had also been made and set out. Thanks again for all the hard work those club members put in to help set-up the dining facilities. Allen Best got the party started with a silent prayer. He then asked the new members and members who had recently returned to us from up north to stand up and be recognized. Joan collected for those interested in the 50/50 drawing as we came through the door.

Darrel passed around an empathy card to be signed for Bill and Penny Boyes who have returned to Canada for medical care. Darrel also mentioned that he had stopped by to see Roland Gilles widow, Veronica. She would love to hear from and visit with any of the members she knows. Her phone number is 920-980-0520 and resides at 612 S. Pine St.. Wayne Lockwood would also appreciate a call to say hello or a note. His number is 607-372-8105 and his address is 29 Kirkwood Ave., Binghamton, New York 13901.

Gerry Bousquet then presented Allen Best with a “Christmas”  basket with presents from members of the club to say a Great Big Thank You for all his hard work as President in guiding us into our club’s 80th Anniversary Year.  Joan then pulled the 50/50 ticket and once again “Lucky” Gerry Bousquet won the till.  He is so lucky, he should play the lottery!

We then formed a line around the buffet table and sampled each of the wonderful dishes everyone brought to share.  We finished up with desert and coffee and then everyone helped to fold and put the tables away.  About 20 members stayed to play Bunco.  Thanks for a great time.  Hope to see you all next month.
