Thursday Morning Four Play Returns – 4/6/17

We were greeted by the local NSB rooster before the start of our Thursday Morning Four Play. Today it stopped raining at 7:30 am. We dried off the courts and welcomed the twelve (12) enthusiastic shufflers who showed-up for the matches which started on time at 9 am. We each played four matches. Dennis Buelk was the only shuffler who managed to win all four of his games. Come join us next Thursday for fun and games. See you then!

Masters Tournament – 3/24/2017

The Masters Tournament took place at the CMS Shuffleboard Courts on March 23rd and 24th. Thirty-Two (32) avid players turned up to meet the challenge. Rich Kordeleski and his crew put the courts in excellent shape. Marguerite and her kitchen crew had coffee and donuts on hand. Every thing was properly prepared for this special event.

Then the rain came and delayed the start of our play until Ten o’clock. Finally sixteen (16) courts were dried clean ready for play with volunteer pushers at the Foot and Master shufflers at the Head. Each category of the Pro Men, Pro Women, Amateur Women and Amateur Men were assigned their first challengers by Jack Wooten. Within their categories each shuffler played two games (4 matches) on Thursday morning, then took a lunch break followed by two more games (4 matches) in the afternoon.   Friday morning we all arrived and began the play right on schedule at 8:30 am. Each shuffler had two more games (4 matches) in the morning and after lunch, they each had their last game (2 matches).  The last match was halted due to rain.  Jack Wooten, ND Event Director, tallied up the final scores.

All the shufflers, pushers and volunteers headed out to Quail Hollow (per Stan Williamson’s invite) for the Masters Tournament Banquet. Paul and Marguerite Fortier helped serve spaghetti with meatballs, bread and salad.  The table decorations were charming and festive.  Allen Best welcomed all of us to Quail Hollow and acted as the Master of Ceremonies.  Allen recognized all our sponsors and introduced the Northern District Officers. Joan Best gave the prayer and then lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Jack Wooten made the presentations for Move Up Pins, Participation Pins and then the two Frank Wilson Awards for the Tournament of Champions.  This year may be the first time we had a husband/wife team win. Bonnie Radke won Amateur Women TOC and Randy Radke won Amateur Men TOC.  Jack announced the placement for this Master’s Tournament after which he then presented this years Northern District HALL OF FAME inductees. Kudos to all!

Shufflers placing from the CMS Club were:  PRO MEN; FIRST PLACE – Stan Williamson, THIRD PLACE – Dennis Buelk and EIGHTH PLACE – Tom Rimmer.  PRO WOMEN;  FIRST PLACE – Edna Triplett and EIGHTH PLACE – Mary Ann Pabst.  AMATEUR MEN;  FIRST PLACE – Mouse Wolven and Randy Radke (Tied).  AMATEUR WOMEN:  SECOND PLACE – Bonnie Radke, THIRD PLACE – Barbara Rush, SIXTH PLACE – Mona Carkner and Louise (Honey) Donnelly (Tied).

Many thanks to all the participants who helped make this tournament a success.

Please refer to the Northern District website for more additional information on the tournament.

CMS Club WORKDAY – Tuesday March 21, 2017

Today at 9:00 am Twenty-Nine (29) enthusiastic volunteers showed up to clean, wash, wax and organize the whole shuffleboard area including the cue house and club house.  Marguerite was out sick so Arlene took over getting the donuts while Allen helped to get the coffee going. The discs were all cleaned and waxed, the scoreboards were scrubbed and  sponges washed. The courts were also blown clear of leaves and debris.

This was one of the largest group of volunteers we have had to date. This is why, besides great leadership, we have such a successful club.  It was great to see so many of our new members join in to help.  We apologize if we have missed any of you in our attached slide show.

NOTE:  A Shout Out to Rich Kordeleski, our court manager, for all his hard work installing the new lock hasps in the cue holding room for our current and expanding membership.

Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers…………………Ciao!

Thursday Night Shuffleboard – March 9th

These pictures were sent from Allen Best. Thursday night, under the lights, we had so many shufflers  playing. All eight lighted courts were full. We have such fun playing in the evenings and spectators love to come by and watch, take pictures and ask questions. Loads of fun on Flagler Ave.
