The Coronado/Mainland Shuffler

Ron Raymond was unable to be with us today, as he is recovering from a bout of pneumonia. We all hope he gets well soon. Tom Rimmer took his place and with some help, prepared the courts for the Four-Play Matches. Twenty-four (24) keen shufflers showed up to challenge each other in this mornings Thursday morning matches. Shufflers played with and against any combination of Pros and/or Amateurs (men and/or women) based on the luck of the draw. You have an opportunity to gauge your own skills and learn from your fellow shufflers. Anyone has a chance to win! Today, Phil Wade was the only shuffler to win all four of his matches. Congratulations!

Ron Raymond and his helpers cleared the courts this morning and prepared them for play. Twenty-seven (27) avid shufflers showed up to challenge each other in their weekly matches. You get to play with and against any combination of Pros and Amateurs based on the luck of the draw. You also have an opportunity to gauge your own skills and learn from your fellow shufflers. Anyone has a chance to win! Today, Charlie Jones was the sole shuffler to win all four of his matches. Congratulations.

Tuesday morning Allen Best, Rich Kordeleski and others helped to install a new sign on the side of our club house which was approved at the December 5, 2015 Board Meeting. This is a sign advertising our club’s activities using Butch Green’s Legacy (he was a past president who died while in office). Looks great!

Thursday Morning Four-Play on Cinco De Mayo dawned cool and sunny with a bit of a breeze. Ron Raymond and his team of volunteers once again cleared the night’s rain off the courts and prepared them for the morning matches. Thirty-five (35) ardent players showed up to shuffle. This week’s Four Game Winners  are Jerry Jabaut, Bob Tager and Joe Shebester (who left before photo op). Congratulations!

A good representation of CM Shuffleboard Club members attended the Chamber of Commerce Retirement Reception for Liz Yancey. The reception was packed with people acquainted with Liz and her 38 years of dedication to the New Smyrna Beach community.   There was a festive atmosphere with a lot of tasty treats. It was a great feeling to be there to see Liz enjoying the evening with all her friends.

Thursday Morning Four-Play started out sunny and ended before the noon heat was dialed up. Event Director Ron Raymond and his volunteers arrived early to prep eight courts for competitive play. Thirty-two (32) avid players showed up to challenge each other in a friendly game of shuffleboard. This was also the last time to shuffle for many of our seasonal snow-bird players before returning back north. We hope for all of them to have a safe journey. So once again, we have three shufflers who won all four of their matches; Walt, Ron, and Rex. Congratulations!

Note:  All of our members and players are invited to attend the retirement reception for Liz Yancey at the Chamber of Commerce on Canal Street tonight from 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm. Afterwards members may want to participate in a game of shuffleboard under the lights which will commence at 6:30 pm.

The CM Shuffleboard Club would like to extend a big THANK YOU to Deb and Durl Evans for their donation of a refrigerator and microwave for the clubhouse kitchen. The appliances we had were on their last legs. We would also like to give a shout-out to the volunteers who helped to move these appliances from the Evans home to the Club House.  Tom Grubb brought his truck while John Fortini, Joe Shebester and Rich Kordeleski supplied the brawn.

While we played shuffleboard on Sunday morning, our loudly crowing local free-ranging roosters strutted their stuff across the courts right into the clubhouse. They kind of reminded me of our four Pros (Charlie, Dennis, Pete”The Hammer” and Tom) who come by to play shuffleboard every Sunday morning. We might want to consider making the roosters our unofficial mascots because they sometimes imitate some of the CMS Club’s most enjoyable qualities in being spirited, carefree, boisterous and humorous.

The City of New Smyrna Beach is hosting a Retirement Reception Honoring Liz Yancey. She has been a very good friend to the CM Shuffleboard Club for many years and is celebrating 38 years of dedication and hard work for the Citizens of New Smyrna Beach. The reception is free and open to the public and will be held on Thursday, April 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce on 115 Canal Street in New Smyrna Beach. The CM Shuffleboard Club would like to thank her for all the support and encouragement she gave our club during her tenure as the New Smyrna Beach Recreation and Special Event Director.  Congratulations Liz on beginning the next phase of your life.
