This morning, despite the potential hurricane fringe effect, we still had Twelve (12) devoted shufflers show up for our Thursday Morning Four-Play matches. Ron Raymond oversaw the court prep to squeegee, dry and bead the courts for the morning matches. Only Bob Tager won all Four of his matches. Bien hecho! Another RAINOUT – It looked ominous when we arrived but seven (7) staunch shufflers still showed up, cleaned the courts, beaded and got ready to play. We managed to start a friendly match but the black clouds rolled over and unloaded on us. The rain was not going to stop, so we gave in to the elements and went home……until next time! Adios!
At 9:00 this morning, eleven (11) committed members showed up to express their ideas for our 80th Anniversary Celebration, chaired by Allen Best. It was decided to have our Annual Banquet Celebration on Thursday Night, March 23rd 2017 so that our Snow Birds will be able to join us before they depart to go back up north. A Banquet barbecue is in the making with pulled pork, chicken, several sides and an 80th Anniversary Celebration Flat Cake that will be supplied by Loretta Cantalupo.
Our Open To the Public Celebration will be held on March 4th in the form of a Fun Day in order to introduce shuffleboard to the public at large. We have Anniversary Tee Shirts in the planning/designing stage that will be made available for sale. Also, new CMS Club signage is in the making. We will keep you informed of any further developments. Ciao!
Today’s Thursday Morning Four-Play matches, overseen by Ron Raymond, attracted Twenty (20) committed shufflers who showed up for a friendly shuffling competition on a balmy August morning. RAINOUT – Thirteen (13) shufflers showed up, cleaned the courts, beaded and got ready to play. The black clouds rolled in and the evening summer downpour came. We waited, hoping for a reprieve. The rain stopped, we squeegeed and dried the courts but the downpour came again. We all gave in to the elements and went home……until next time!
Just a reminder that we have another 80th Anniversary Planning Meeting this Saturday 8/27 at 9:00 am before regular play. All those snow birds who have some ideas for our Celebration, please send me an email. We look forward to your suggestions. It is important that we have club input on any and all ideas for consideration!
Our August Pot Luck (PL) Dinner was attended by twenty-six (26) CMS Club members and several of their guests. Rex Galusha’s mom, Jean, joined us again this month and Marty Bystrom brought his mom and dad. Suso Day brought her daughter, who was home from college. Connie and Gerry’s grandson, Alex, also joined the PL festivities. The variety of covered PL dishes and desserts brought in by the attendees where most plentiful and tasty. As always, a shout-out of appreciation goes out to the kitchen helpers and table/chair arrangers.
The 50/50 drawing winner, handled by Joan Best, was Gerry Bousquet (a recurrent winner). Allen Best had our new members and guests introduce themselves. He also encouraged us to participate in the upcoming 9am Saturday morning (August, 27th) meeting of “ideas” in preparation for our Club’s 80th Anniversary in 2017.
We had an enjoyable social while savoring the culinary delights of the evening. Some of the members stayed to play Bunco, a popular game played with dice and a whole lot of luck. Until next time, Ciao!
