WE NEED YOUR HELP! A Call For Volunteers.

Having participated at other shuffleboard clubs this tournament season, I was impressed with these clubs being hospitable, accommodating and well organized.

I just noticed that we only have two (2) volunteers signed up for the upcoming Northern District Tournament being held here tomorrow, Thursday thru Friday, Nov 3-4. We will have approximately 28 teams visiting our club and that is why we will need more than two volunteers to sweep the courts, wax the discs and bead the courts between matches.

If you are not playing in this tournament and will be in the area, it would be greatly appreciated if you would volunteer to help out your CMS Club. Please let us know ASAP if we can count on your support.  Call Allen Best at (302) 841-0251 or Bonnie Radke at (386) 402-7105. Thanks

Shirts for our 80th Anniversary Celebration

We have finalized the shirts that we will be selling for our 80th Anniversary. They will be polyester and the base color is light gray. We have shirts in the cue house for you to try on (to make sure you order the correct size.). They seem to run a bit large. We have S, M, L, and XL for $16.00 and if you need 2XL we can get them for $17.00. We are taking orders for the shirts. As soon as we have 50 shirts ordered and paid for we will have them printed. Please speak with Allen Best, Dennis Buelk, Bonnie Radke and Richard Kordeleski if you need us to get the (try-on) shirts out of the store room for you. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Please consider your vote for Dorothy Hukill

Bob Finta would like to get a message to our members to support Dorothy Hukill for state government. She was instrumental in getting $76K for improvements to our club as a state grant. That money prompted the City of NSB and the Village Improvement Association to kick in $$$ to pay the bill for : the public bathroom, refinishing the courts, putting covers on courts that didn’t have covers, giving us the light poles we have now, new AC and heater for the clubhouse, painting the aprons around the court, repiping the drainage, new disks, etc.
Without her cooperation we would have nothing done. When I approached her she gave her approval for the project and appointed an aide to sheppard the request through the legislature. He would appreciate it if you would consider voting for Dorothy again this year. Thank you for your support.

Northern District Any Doubles Tournament – October 20/21, 2016

The CMS Shuffleboard Club in New Smyrna Beach was the host for the Northern District Any Doubles Tournament on Thursday and Friday, October 20/21. Twenty-nine (29) avid teams showed up to meet the challenge and place for cash prizes and bragging rights. Rich Kordeleski and John Fortini put canvases up to cover hurricane induced missing roofs on the courts. Candy Kordeleski, Barb Fortini and Arlene Jabaut came early to set up the coffee and donuts. Joan Best took care of the 50/50 distribution.

Club President Allen Best, with the help of volunteers (Rich, Arlene, Don Nephew, Cindy and Zak Wonson, Tim Pergrem, Gerry Bousquet, Debbie Evans and Charlie Jones with his blower), swept, cleaned and preped the courts for the competitive matches. Barb Nephew, Connie Bousquet and Betty Buccini manned the table for filing Tournament registrations and entry fees. Thanks go out to Richie and Carolyn Burrell, the Northern District Directors, were in charge of administering this enjoyable and well organized Tournament.

We began the day with some announcements from Allen Best and Pat King (President of the Northern District). Pat King picked the 50/50 ticket and Mouse Wolven won the pot.  We had a Prayer from John Holder followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Recognition was given to those recent members and acquaintances who have passed. A big hand goes out to all the volunteers and participants who made this  Tournament possible and a success.

THE WINNERS WERE:

Main Event, First Place: Charlie Jones/Darrel Harman,  Second Place: Mary Ann Pabst/Rick Enright, Third Place: Tom Rimmer/Dennis Buelk, Fourth Place: Guy Godman/Bob Tager.

Consolation Event, First Place: Walt Bartels/Gary Deso, Second Place: Pete Peterson/Walt Vilk, Third Place: Jeffrey Luneau/Mouse Wolven, Fourth Place: Edna Triplett/Dee Metz.

Club House Improvement Update – 10/19/16

The next time you go into the CUE/Club House, you will notice that there has been a great deal of work done.  Tim Pergrem (have paintbrush will travel) has done an outstanding first rate job in painting the Cue House floors and some of their walls.

NOTE: The new room for Cues is now available for cue storage (only on it’s left hand side). A sign up numbered sheet is available on a first come basis for Club members interested in securing a storage space for their Cues.

Allen Best has also painted the Club House bulletin board wall and continues to help frame related shuffleboard event pictures. A whole wall, with Debbie Evan’s help, has been created for some of our shuffleboard club’s history.

The walls between the windows will be honoring the CMS Club’s State Hall Of Fame Members: Dorine Bessette (2013), Edna Triplett (2009) and Stan Williamson (2008).  I have attached their profiles for your perusal.  You will also notice that Joan Best has put together a group of  club library books that you are free to borrow and/or add to. “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude. Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer.” A great big THANK YOU to all the volunteers for their hard work on behalf of the club.

Shuffleboard Courts Clean Up – October 17, 2016

Between 8:00 am and 9:30 am nineteen (19) eager volunteers showed up this Monday to sweep, wash, wax, and clean up the shuffleboard courts. We finished up at approximately 11am. Our volunteers totally cleaned and washed the cue house so that Tim Pergrem could paint the floor after he finishes painting the cue room. The scoreboards were all washed along with the sponges/erasers. All the discs had already been painted. Allen and Debbie worked on the Historical Bulletin Board in the club house. We would like to thank all of today’s volunteers: Allen and Joan Best, Gerry Bousquet, Dennis Buelk, Mona Carkner, Debbie Evans, Darrel Hartman, Dave Helverson, Arlene and Jerry Jabaut, Wayne Lockwood, Carolyn Menosky, Don Nephew, Tim Pergrem, Bonnie and Randy Radke, Ron Raymond, Joe Rossitto and Mouse Wolven. Allen Best understands that some of our members may have had a conflict of interest that may have prevented them from participating in today’s Clean-Up. If your name was not included in today’s clean up list, Allen looks forward to your volunteering for the next clean up and/or working the next local shuffleboard tournament.   PEASE DO NOT ENTER THE CUE HOUSE OR USE THE SHUFFLEBOARD COURTS UNTIL TUESDAY NIGHTS REGULAR SHUFFLEBOARD PLAY.  AGAIN, THANKS TO ALL!
