A Note From Bill Boyes

“It is with deep sadness that I must tell you that my dear Penny, passed away peacefully at home February 16, following a brave battle with cancer. She was 73 years old. Penny’s cancer was not discovered until mid January, and together, we lived life to the fullest right up to almost the end.

Penny land I were married 52 years. She also leaves behind children Brian
(married to Tracy) and Barb (married to Brent), and grandchildren Aubrey (14), Graydon (11), and Rowan (6 weeks).

Penny enjoyed the friendships and activities at Coronado/Mainland Shuffleboard Club since 2004. During that time, we enjoyed living on Bouchelle Island in New Smyrna Beach.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Penny on April 29, 2 PM, at Frenchman’s Bay Yacht Club, 635 Breezy Dr., Pickering Ontario.,” .

February Pot Luck Dinner – 2/17/17

Our February Pot Luck Dinner was set up with tables, chairs, placemats, coffee, tea and lemonade by Marguerite, Paul and the crew.  The social hour began as the members arrived with their goodies. Joan Best collected for the 50/50 and the tables began to fill with around 40 plus members. We were joined by some brand new shuffleboard members and social members. Mary Harlow brought her sister Peggy from Virginia.  Felix (the Cat) and Mary brought their friend Joan.

Allen Best welcomed everyone and asked if anyone had heard news about Wayne Lockwood and/or Penny Boyes. At that time there was no recent news. We said a silent prayer for them and others who were missing.

Allen listed off the upcoming events and asked that everyone join us at the Mardi Gras Parade on February 28th and sign up as volunteers for our Anniversary Celebration Day on March 4th.  We were also still looking for volunteers for the Masters Tournament on March 23rd and 24th.  Just before we lined up for food, Peggy drew the 50/50 ticket which Mouse Wolven won.

Everyone lined up in an orderly fashion to partake in the wonderful food. So much to eat and so good. After dinner, the tables and chairs were put away and those who were staying for Bunco retired to the clubhouse room to play. If we missed you this month, hopefully you will join us next month on March 11th for our end of season Anniversary Celebration Dinner. Tickets are still being sold for $20.00 per person for a wonderful meal to be catered by That’s Amore’. Please join us. Ciao!

February Fun Day – 2/11/17

February’s Fun Day began, as usual, with Marguerite and her kitchen crew doing a fantastic job of setting up the coffee, drinks, donuts, hot dogs, and chips while Paul’s crew set up the tables while Johnnie decorated the hall.  Rich and his crew set up all the obstacles on twenty courts. Joan collected the 50/50 and Barb Fortini collected the $1 registration fee while registering all the shufflers.  Allen Best called the group to order and gave an updated report on Bill, Penny Boyes and Wayne Lockwood followed by a silent prayer.  Allen announced the team captains and handed out the chips used to select the Fun Day teams.  Forty-Five (45) enthusiastic club shufflers joined in the fun to overcome the amusing obstacles in-order to score as many points as possible. Then the games began.

When all the teams had completed the 20 courts of obstacles, we all convened to the club house for more socializing while Barb Fortini totaled the score sheets (one bizarre) and verified their accuracy.  Barb Fortini drew the 50/50 ticket that our new member John Peed won.  Then Allen began to announce the winners and hand out the prize money.

The Top Winning Team was Joan Best, Rex, Jane and Guy with a high score of 1300.  The Second Team was Barb Fortini, Bonnie, Jim and Floyd with a score of 1160.  The Third Team was Candy, Loretta, Harry (did not stay for picture) and Bob Tager with a score of 1100.

Rex Galusha had the Highest Individual Score of 380, followed by a three-way tie, with a score of 350, between Guy Godman, Mary McConnell and Bonnie Radke. All in all, it was a fun day with many of our very new members enjoying the challenge.  Once again we must thank Our Volunteers for without them, we would not be able to have this much fun!   Please come back and join us for next month’s FUN DAY.
