Letter to the club from Valerie Lockwood Douglass

Dear club members,

As I’m sure many of you knew my father, Wayne Lockwood, had seven daughters of whom he loved dearly. We are beyond shocked and saddened by his untimely death.

As I look through the pictures of dad posted on your site I am able to see what joy he experienced shuffling with all of you. I am so thankful that he was able to enjoy his years in the New Smyrna Beach area and thankful to all of you for being a part of his life. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.

Here is one of my favorite pictures of dad.

WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT – 2017/2018

Let us continue to rejuvenate and support our charming Coronado/Mainland Shuffleboard Courts along historic Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.  “We acknowledge all those who went before us since 1937 to help make the CMS Club what it is today.  All the officers, committee members, workers, supporters and players that kept alive the spirit of competition and dedication in order for us to continue to play this wonderful game that we all enjoy.”

Allen Best would like to remind everyone that our year begins on October 1st. Therefore the club would appreciate it if you could please pay your $20.00 Annual Dues by September 30th. We are required to pay the city at this time and use the rest of the money collected for functions “to provide a social atmosphere to promote fellowship, sportsmanship, companionship and recreation for our club members”. Thanks for your continued support and attention to this very important matter.

NOTE:  Dennis Buelk, Bonnie Radke or Allen Best can collect your Dues at the courts and give you a new Club Membership Card.  You are also welcome to mail in your Dues to: Betty Buccini, 2325 Date Palm Dr. Edgewater, FL 32119 and she will mail you a new CMS Club Membership Card. Pay to the order of:  Coronado/Mainland Shuffleboard Club

Pot Luck Dinner – Sept. 15, 2017

We had a small Pot Luck Dinner get-together on Friday evening. Sadly, Rich and Candy Kordeleski were unable to attend due to the death of Rich’s sister.  Our thoughts and prayers are with them.  Allen Best was home with a cold, so Joan came to help keep things in order. Eight (8) people showed up to socialize and enjoy each others company. We had good food and great company. We talked about where we went and what we did during and after hurricane Irma. Casey McCall brought some delicious home-baked carrot cake for the finale. We bid each other adieu and left for the evening with plans to return for more socializing at next month’s Pot Luck Dinner. Ciao!

Thursday Morning Four-Play – September 14, 2017

The courts were swept and cleaned for play. We had Nine (9) players show up to meet the challenge. A lot of our players were still out of town or cleaning-up due to Hurricane Irma. Randy Radke was the only player to register four (4) wins. Congratulations Randy. Hopefully more shufflers will be back to play next Thursday. Ciao!

New Discs on track to Go!

So Hurricane Irma seems to have delayed our play with the new discs until after we Clean,Wax and Prep the courts next week on Tuesday, Sept. 19th. Volunteer court clean-up will begin at 9:00 am. We will also need volunteers to help with washing the score boards and erasers. Allen Best has all the new discs carriers painted, numbered and ready to go. Hurricane IRMA Aftermath – 9/12/17

Tuesday morning we documented (before the internet came back up today 9/13/17) a lot of vegetative debris and plugged-up drains on the CMS Club’s courts after IRMA came through. Fortunately, we did not suffer any structural damage. A CMS Club crew came in on Tuesday morning to clean it up allowing Tuesday Night match play to take place under the lights. Courts are ready for more fun and games. Ciao!

Thursday Morning Four-Play – September 7, 2017

So with Hurricane Irma on its way to visit Florida, many of our players who take part in the Thursday Morning Four-Play had already evacuated. Ron, Tom and Randy were unable to be here so I cleared three courts with the idea that there might still be some hardy players. Six (6) enthusiastic players showed up for the challenge. Without a full slate of players we played two Round Robins and just enjoyed shuffling. Hopefully all of you will stay safe and be able to return soon. Ciao!
