Saturday Court Waxing – July 21, 2018

At 8:45 am this morning some of our volunteers showed up to wipe off the renovated courts with damp towels before waxing. Then as the other volunteers arrived, we started spreading and rolling on the wax. Because Tom had cleaned the courts the evening before, we were able to finish the waxing job in approximately 50 minutes. Many thanks to volunteers; Allen Best, Bob Stock, Dennis Buelk, Dave Helverson, Rich Kordeleski, Cindy Wonson, Rod Lewis, Tom Carbonell, Randy and Bonnie Radke for their help and support. We were able to finish-up quickly and thereby proceeded to play three matches of shuffleboard on the unfinished courts 18 & 19. The upper courts will be open for shuffling starting tomorrow. Ciao!

July Pot Luck Dinner – July 20, 2018

Friday night we held our July Pot Luck Dinner.  Thirteen (13)  members showed up.  Rich, Candy, Connie and Gerry gave us a pleasant surprise by their attendance.  It was a small party so we changed the positioning of the tables to face each other.  Pres. Tom Carbonell  reported on the expected progress of the Nidy court renovations. He explained that we needed to seal the completed courts with wax before playing on them.

Joan Best said a dinner prayer before we lined up to chow down.  The food was tasty and filling. Tom brought his wonderful pork loin while Jim brought his famous deviled eggs. There was ham, chicken, baked beans, broccoli casserole and desserts. We socialized for a time during and after dinner before everyone helped to clean up.  We did not have enough members to play Bunco, so we all said goodbye till we meet again.

Tom Carbonell stayed after the dinner to squeegee off the upper courts so they would be clean and dry for waxing on Saturday morning.

Court Refinishing UPDATE – 8/19/18

Nidy has been working hard to finish our upper courts. They have completed two coats of the green paint and touched up the court edges. Today they were finishing the stencil work on the newly painted courts. They use metal forms to keep the lines and numbers straight. The courts will need a day or two to cure before we wax them to seal in the paint. It looks great!

Thursday Morning Four-Play – July 19, 2018

The usual morning clean up crew arrived early to prep the courts for our Thursday Morning Four-Play Challenge. We played on the lower courts because Nidy was still working on the upper courts. Twenty (20) enthusiastic players came for the TMFP Challenge. Shufflers each played four matches. Congratulations to Bob Tager and Rod Lewis for winning all four of their matches. Next week we should be playing on our newly refinished courts. Hope to see you then. Ciao!
