The Coronado/Mainland Shuffler

1. Saturday, February 2nd is the Exec Board meeting at 10:00 am Followed by the General Club Board Meeting at 11:00 am.

2. Tuesday, Feb 5th is our MAYOR’S TOURNAMENT which is open to all club members.  This is a Singles Mingles style fun tournament. The club will supply subs for lunch. Last year we played five games of 12 frames each. The winners recorded their scores. After three matches, we broke for a lunch of subs, chips and cake.  Then we played our last two games. While Dennis (Director) tallied the scores, the rest of us cleaned the courts and put everything away.

PLEASE SIGN UP IN THE CLUB HOUSE SO WE KNOW HOW MUCH FOOD TO PURCHASE.  We will also need our volunteers to come to help set up everything to make the day Fun For All.  Hope to see you all there.

2018 Mayor’s Tournament

The day dawned cold and rainy at Leesburg, but Twenty-Six (26) Amateurs and Thirty-Four (34) Pro shufflers came for the challenge.  By mid morning the weather had cleared and we played our scheduled matches.  Pat and Donna King were our Directors and Suter Air was the sponsor.   Thank you to Gail Howell and all the members of the Leesburg Shuffleboard Club for the excellent lunch and drinks.  The courts were in great condition considering the rain.  Thanks to Donna Lewis for the information and photographs.  Congratulations to our declared CMS members.

We had a beautiful day to play Singles Mingles. A bit windy, but Fourteen (14) shufflers showed up for the challenge. We played the usual 12 frames for five games and recorded the winners. Dennis Buelk tallied up the scores and the winners were as follows:
Pros/St. Ams, FIRST PLACE, Phil Wade with 348 points, SECOND PLACE, Randy Radke with 291 points and THIRD PLACE, Edna Triplett with 262 points. Amateurs, FIRST PLACE, Bob Tager with 223 points, SECOND PLACE, Rose Sargent with 197 points and THIRD PLACE, Tom Grubb with 189 points. The Northern District Any Amateur Doubles Tournament was held at the Holiday Travel Rest on Jan 21/22, 2019.  They endured cold and windy weather and fought the wet courts  but did it with a smile   19 teams endured cold and windy weather .  Congratulations to all the declared CMS Members.  Thanks to Arlene Jabaut and Donna Lewis for the information and photos.

Just a reminder that Singles Mingles is this Tuesday, Jan 22nd. For those who want to participate, please be there prior to 8:45 AM to register and pay your $2.00 entry fee. Game starts at 9:00 sharp. We play five games with twelve frames each game. We will pair as many Amateurs with a Pro/State Am as we can, depending on who shows up. The top three Amateurs and top three Pros/State Ams take home the winnings. Please be considerate and do not start to play if you cannot stay till the end.  Remember, you do not have to be single to play. Hope to see you there. Ciao!

We had a pleasant day for our January Fun Day. Arden and Mary McConnell came early to begin setting up the courts before others arrived to help-out. Barb Fortini, Jane, Diane Hamas and Mary Harlow got the kitchen going. Barb Fortini then took over registering the shufflers for the games. Joan Best handled the 50/50 which was won by Cathy Kennedy. Al Best organized the teams to play on 20 courts. After Fun Play, we all met back at the clubhouse for lunch while Barb totaled up each of the team scores. Allen called out all the participating teams and presented them their winnings.

Congratuations to:
First Place; Dennis Buelk (Captain), Darrell, Felix and Loretta with a score of 1390. Second Place; Mary McConnell (Captain), Bob Tager, Jane Tager and Randy Radke with a score of 1230 and Third Place; Bob “Mouse” Wolven (Captain), Bob Ebert, Tom Carbonell and Rose Sargent with a score of 1120. Congratulations to all the winners and participants. We look forward to more shuffling fun next month.

I forgot to mention who the top scorers were.

The TOP SCORERS were: Dennis Buelk with 420; John Fortini  with 410, and Darrel Harman with 400 points.

The January Pot Luck Dinner was attended by new and old friends. We had Forty-Four (44) members present at our social dinner. Tom Carbonell was unable to attend so Al Best agreed to MC. We had eight tables of cheerful members who brought wonderful culinary delights to share. Thanks to everyone who helped to set up and clean up.  Mike Darling won our 50/50 drawing. We lined up for the buffet and then settled down to an enjoyable evening with friends. Following dinner the tables and chairs were cleaned and put away.  Remaining members set up for a friendly game of Bunco. We all look forward to the next time we can socialize over food and drink. The morning started really cold for the Northern District No Two Pros Tournament in Hawthorne. The courts were in beautiful shape and the coffee and donuts were a welcome relief. Ninety-Six (96) shufflers showed up for the challenge. Donna and Pat King were our Tournament Directors and Bob Robinson was the sponsor.  Ten (10) declared CMS members participated in this tournament.  Congratulations to all the winners.  Thank you to the Deland Shuffleboard Club for supplying the pictures.

PLEASE NOTE: We had posted a list in the cue house for people to sign up for Scoring with Mary Harlow on Mondays at 12:00 Noon but because we did not have enough people sign up for this event, it HAS BEEN CANCELLED…… In order for us to have club events we need to have enough participation.  There are sign up sheets for the Pot Luck this Friday (Jan 18) and the Fun Day this Saturday (Jan 19).  Please let us know if you are planning to participate.  We need to know how much food is necessary.   Thanks for your attention to this notice.

The Tavares Shuffleboard Club hosted the ND Pros Draw Dbles/ Am Draw Dbles on  Jan 10/11, 2019. The day dawned at a breezy 41 degrees but we still had Forty-Four (44) Pros and Twenty-Eight (28) Amateurs show up for the challenge. A big thank you to Lorraine Layton (President) and her club for the warm food, coffee and for the beautiful condition the courts were in. Donna and Pat King were our Tournament Directors.
