This morning we cleaned up the courts and set the stage for our Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge. Twenty-One (21) shufflers showed up to play. We welcomed players from Orange City and Deland who joined us for the day. After four games recording the winners, we are happy to congratulate Tom Rimmer and Carolyn Burrell (from Deland) on winning all four of their matches. The usual clean up crew arrived to set up the courts for the Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge. Twenty-Three (23) players showed up to play. We played our usual four games of 16 frames recording the winners after each game. Following the games we cleared the courts and congratulated the winners who had won all four of their games. Cletus S. “Bud” Barker, age 97, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 2:24 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Halifax Health Hospice Care Center in Edgewater, Florida.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.

Bud Barker is our most senior member (93 years young). He is originally from Mount Sterling, Illinois and moved to NSB 15 years ago by way of Deltona. Bud has been in Florida for approximately 40 years and has been a member of the CMS club for the past 18 years. He was playing a couple of weeks ago with Randy and proceeded to put him in the “kitchen” more than once. Upon playing the winning disc, he gleefully muttered under his breath, “don’t mess with the old man.” His play is not a fluke because in last Thursday’s “Four-Play” he won all four of his games. Keep on shuffling Bud!
Bud was our oldest member and always had a smile for everyone. He will be sorely missed. RIP Bud.

The usual clean up crew showed up to clean the courts for the Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge. Twenty-Two (22) shufflers showed up for the game. We played two games, recording the winners with two byes and then Rich Kordeleski came and we had five full courts and one round robin playing for the final two games. After we finished playing everyone cleaned the courts and we all congratulated Edna Triplett and Chris Inga (from Deland) who had won all four of their games. Once again we had a beautiful morning for our Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge. Nineteen (19) shufflers showed up to play. Many of our challengers have headed out for vacation or back up North. The usual clean up crew prepared the courts, we drew courts, partners and began to play. It seems that this week as well as last week no one was able to win all four of their matches. Six of us only had three match wins each. Congratulations to Tim, Cindy, Dennis, Bonnie, Dee and Bob from Deland.

The usual set up crew arrived to set up the courts for the Fun Day Challenge. Marguerite and Paul were there early to get the coffee and donuts going. I was not there for the fun, but it looks like everyone had a great time. Thirty-six (36) shufflers showed up to have some fun. We had nine teams playing the 20 court obstacle course.
FIRST PLACE: Tom Carbonell (Captain), Bruce Bancroft, Felix Piscitelli and Darrel Harman with a score of 1310. SECOND PLACE: John Fortini (Captain), Loretta Cantalupo, Bob Tager and Mike Beall with a score of 1180. THIRD PLACE: Al Best (Captain), Elizabeth Sharman, Tom Pergrem and Barb Fortini with a score of 1150.
HIGH SCORERS: First Place: Tom Carbonell 420 points, Second Place: Tied with 410 points, Dennis Buelk and Tom Grubb, Third Place: Barb Fortini with 400 points.

Paul and Marguerite came early to set up the tables, decorations and set up the coffee before 5 pm. The rest of us began arriving around 5 pm for our social half hour before dinner. We had only Twenty-Eight (28) members come for the dinner as many of our friends have already headed back up North for the Summer. We still had a beautiful spread of wonderful tasting dishes to share.
Tom Carbonell called the group to order and Joan Best said a dinner prayer. Then Randy pulled the winning ticket for the 50/50 lucky winner Rich Kordeleski. Finally it was time to chow down the Ham, Chicken, beans, salads, shrimp and much more to be followed by some luscious deserts. During dinner, Paul and Marguerite’s family stopped by to say Hello.
When we were finished with dinner the tables and chairs were left for the Saturday Fun Day event the next day.
