Fun Day – 3/19/16 – RAIN OUT

A lot of fun loving players showed up this Saturday in anticipation of  participating in the Fun Day Challenge. Hot dogs, chips, coffee, lemonade and a great selection of deserts was made available for those interested participants.  Also a 50/50 drawing was offered. After noticing some passersby with umbrellas, we were alerted that it had started to rain.  Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, the Fun Day was called off  by Allen Best due to a Rain Out. A shoutout of appreciation with thanks goes to those club volunteers who came out early to prepare the hospitality club room and prepare the courts with Fun Day props.

Tuesday, CMS Club Clean-Up Day – 3/15/16

Today’s weather was perfect for the CMS Club Clean-Up Day that started approximately at 9am. Twenty-one (21) CMS volunteers got busy on the courts to have the leaves blown off, scrubbed, washed and  squeegeed before the wind blew it dry. Then the wax was rolled on all twenty courts.  Meanwhile, the bleachers were relocated, benches were washed, chalkboards were scrubbed and the sponges cleaned. The clubhouse floors were swept and some volunteers even re-painted and re-numbered the disks (vivid festive colors). We had a break for coffee and donuts before finishing up at 11:30am.

Without volunteers, there would not be a well functioning club. Thanks to all the following volunteers who came out to help maintain our courts and club facilities.

Allen and Joan Best, Rich and Candy Kordeleski, Arden and Mary McConnell, Randy and Bonnie Radke, Marguerite and Paul Fortier, Denny and Angie Wyss, Bill Boyes, John Tardif, Dennis Buelk, Jerry Jabaut, Roland Gilles, Dave Helverson, Darrel Harman, John Fortini and Bob Stock.

A lot of us will be back at 6:30 tonight to break-in the newly waxed courts.

INTER CITY – SEASON ENDING TOURNAMENT – 2016

Monday morning started out  seasonably cool and sunny as approximately 68 enthusiastic competitors came together at Deland’s shuffleboard courts, adjacent to the Wayne G. Sunburn Activity Center, for the season ending Inter City Shuffleboard Tournament. The shufflers were divided into Team A and Team B based on their season’s win/loss averages. We played three games in the morning (after donuts and coffee) before we took a lunch break for a scrumptious buffet lunch of pulled pork, potato salad, Cole slaw, chips and soft drinks. We also ate colorful cupcakes to celebrate Honey Donnelly’s birthday before we went out to play two more games. After the tournament competition ended, the wins/scores were tallied before the finalists were announced.

Team A Finalists:  1st Place with five wins, Christine and John Giumara;  2nd Place with four wins, Walt Bartles and Milt Wordelman;  3rd Place with four wins, Pete Peterson and Charlie Jones and 4th Place with four wins, Walt Vilk and Ron Raymond. Contestants with the same number of wins are ranked by their winning score totals.

Team B Finalists:  1st Place with four wins, Bonnie and Randy Radke: 2nd Place with four wins, Barb and Chuck Ault;  3rd Place with four wins, Dave and Jean Helverson; and 4th Place with three wins, Scottie Scott and Karen Heath.    Congratulations to all the players, teams and clubs who participated to make this another memorable and successful season. A very special thanks and appreciation go out to the Deland Shuffleboard Club members for being terrific hosts organizing and implementing this outstanding Inter City Tournament/buffet.

There is a standing Inter City Tournament Trophy for the A Team and another trophy for the B Team. The first place winners from each team will have their names engraved on their respective trophies. The First Place winner’s club will keep the trophy on their premises for the year. The CMS Club representation did very well!
