FUN DAY Scheduled for Saturday – 11/19/16

CMS Club’s Fun Day is scheduled for Sat. Nov 19th starting at 12 Noon. This is an amusing ( lots of chuckles) event that tests your intuitive skills of accurately (good luck) placing a disc through a variety of obstacles. All twenty (20) courts with their own particular peculiarities are used. Participating teams, each with four (4) persons including an assigned Captain (scorekeeper/rule enforcer) are selected before the fun begins.  The participation fees ($ 1.00 each) are all paid back to the teams in amounts reflective of their placement and/or standing.

Fun loving shuffling participants should SIGN-UP at the Cue House so we know how many FREE hot dogs, chips, coffee, lemonade and sweet treats need to be prepared. We give an appreciative shout-out to the CREW (volunteers) who will be setting up the kitchen and preparing the courts with all their wacky obstacles.

As a reminder to those who have negotiated these obstacles before and for those who will be encountering them for the first time, I have listed below the hardest courts to score on in descending order to the easiest courts to score on with accompanying court diagrams.  These figures were compiled from the results of 44 players participating in our last Fun Day. Now y’all come on down, test your intuition and have some fun, ya here!

1. Court #3 –      Kitchen Scoring Only – (HARDEST)
2. Court #17  –      Lag Line Only
3. Court #13 –       Seven-Eight or Eight-Ten Lines Only
4. Court #4 –        Two–Pin Scoring
5. Court #18 –      Outside Line Only

7. Court #14 –      10’s and 10 – Lines
8. Court #2  –      One–Pin Scoring       Tied with Court #20 Only Inside Lines
9. Court #1 –        Head–Pin Scoring
10. Court #7 –      Center Line                 Tied with Court #19 Side-Board Ricochet Scoring

For those who have asked how Joe Shebester is doing, I received a message from Jodie, his wife, that he is doing well at home but will be unable to join us for shuffleboard for at least another four weeks. We wish him well in his continued recovery.

Pro Only / Amateurs Only Doubles Tournament – Nov 3/4, 2016

Thursday morning Nov 3rd was the beginning of the Northern District Pros Only and Amateur Only Doubles Tournament. Candy and Rich Kordeleski with Allen and Joan Best arrived early to get the coffee and donuts going and to set up the tables in the club house.

The CMS crew (volunteers) showed up to clean the courts, blow the leaves, bead the courts and set the stage for the tournament. Our mascot roosters were there to greet us.  One of the players relaxed on a courtside bench in great anticipation for the start of the tournament.  Rich and Carolyn Burrell were the Northern District Directors for the tournament and the Beachside Candy Company was our sponsor. We had 21 Pro teams with 17 players from CMS and 13 Amateur teams with 14 players from CMS.

After all the players had arrived and checked in, Allen Best began the day with some announcements, a silent prayer and the pledge of allegiance. Pat King, President of the Northern District, made some announcements and then the 50/50 winning ticket was drawn. The teams were assigned their courts and a friendly competitive day ensued. Part way through the first matches we had some rain and had to sweep, dry and re-bead the courts all over again. The remainder of the day was beautiful.

Friday Morning during the final matches of the tournament the emergency unit of the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department and EVAC Unit came to attend a medical episode experienced by one of the visiting participants.  We are glad to have these highly skilled FD professionals available in our community.  A photographer from the News Journal On Line came to photograph our event that may end up in next Fridays newspaper edition.

We would like to thank the CMS Club Crew who worked so hard to keep the tournament running so smoothly. The only way we can have a successful tournaments like this is by the help and support of all our wonderful volunteers. So a big cheer and THANK YOU for the Crew.

CMS Club Pro Winners Were:

Consolation: 1st Place: Dennis Buelk and Tom Rimmer; 3rd Place: Edna Tiplett and Dorine Bessette.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! A Call For Volunteers.

Having participated at other shuffleboard clubs this tournament season, I was impressed with these clubs being hospitable, accommodating and well organized.

I just noticed that we only have two (2) volunteers signed up for the upcoming Northern District Tournament being held here tomorrow, Thursday thru Friday, Nov 3-4. We will have approximately 28 teams visiting our club and that is why we will need more than two volunteers to sweep the courts, wax the discs and bead the courts between matches.

If you are not playing in this tournament and will be in the area, it would be greatly appreciated if you would volunteer to help out your CMS Club. Please let us know ASAP if we can count on your support.  Call Allen Best at (302) 841-0251 or Bonnie Radke at (386) 402-7105. Thanks
