The Executive Board met at 10:30 this morning. Nine members of the board were present (Marty Bystrom did not attend). The first notice to be announced was that the MARCH FUN DAY WILL TAKE PLACE ON MARCH 24TH. They also wanted me to announce that PUSHERS ARE NEEDED FOR THE MASTERS TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD ON MARCH 22ND IN DELAND.   Barb Fortini will be submitting the full minutes of this meeting and they will be posted in the cue house.

Twenty-Four (24) members participated in the General Board Meeting in order to  elect our new Executive Board  Members.  Bill Boyes had previously posted the nominees for these positions in the Cue House. Bill then explained that because there were no new nominations made on the floor of the meeting, the secretary would accept and validate the posted nominees as having been elected and enter their names in the minutes.  The newly elected members will be sworn into office by Bob Tager at the  Club’s Annual Banquet on March 24th.

We all took the time at the conclusion of the meeting to recognize and thank Allen Best for his superb stewardship as President of the CMS Club over the past  four years. Al will be remaining as one of the Directors for the Board.

Monday morning, March 5th, the Deland Shuffleboard Club hosted the season ending InterCity (Deland, Orange City, Ormond Beach, New Smyrna Beach) Tournament. Two Groups of shufflers, A (above .500) and B (below .500), were established depending on how many matches were either won or lost by the InterCity participants during the November 2017 to March 2018 season. Candy Kordeleski won the 50/50 drawing.  Christine Giumarra lead us in a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Twelve (12) teams made up Group A and Fourteen (14) teams made up Group B. We drew chips to see which court and team each participant would compete against. Each participating team played five matches of 16 frames. The winners recorded their score and court number. After each match we drew new courts and opponents. After we all played three matches, we broke for a fine lunch of pulled pork (prepared by Richie and Carolyn Burrell), potato salad, coleslaw, chips and drinks. Following lunch, we all played our last two matches, cleaned the courts and went in for cookies and ice cream.

Director Richie Burrell tallied up all the scores and thanked all the people who helped out making this program a success. The CMS Club would also like to thank Carolyn & Richie Burrell, Barbar Allen, Jim Applebee (for all his hard work with the disc prep), Mary Ann Pabst, John & Christine Giumarra, Keith & Irene Wheeler, Rod & Donna Lewis, Jerry & Barbara Barr for all their support and hard work during this tournament/banquet.

The First Place winners from Group A and B will have their names added to their two respective InterCity Trophies. Trophies will be kept on display at each winner’s clubhouse. Ciao!

The usual volunteers showed up to clean and prepare the courts for Singles Mingles play. We had Five (5) Pro/State Ams and Nine (9) Amateurs. Dennis Buelk collected the entry fee and explained the game’s rules. We played five matches of 12 frames each. The winners recorded their scores and Dennis then tallied them up.

This is just a reminder that we have Singles Minges, Ttuesday 27, 2018 starting at 8:45 am. $2.00 entry fee.

Rich Kordeleski and his fabulous crew showed up very early to set up 20 courts for the Fun Day Competition. Marguerite and her dynamic kitchen crew prepared the morning coffee, tea, lemonade and donuts in addition to having the lunch set-up for later after the games. Barb Fortini registered all the shufflers and collected the $1 entry fee. We had Fifty-Three (53) enthusiastic shufflers, more than anyone can remember, show up to have some shuffling fun. Joan Best collected the 50/50 and Allen Best organized the team leaders and sent them out to the courts. Everyone picked a chip which apprised them of the court they would start on.

After we had played on all of the courts and submitted our score sheets to Barb Fortini, she tallied them up. In the mean time, everyone cleaned up their own courts and helped put away our fun day props. A hot dog lunch with a home made pasta salad, provided by Marilyn VanLare, was served. The 50/50 winner drawn was Joyce DiPietro. Allen then began handing out awards to all the teams with the highest to lowest scores.

The Top Winning Team was Bonnie Radke (Capt.), Randy Radke, Felix Piscitelli and Darrel Harman with a score of 1400 points. The Second Place Team was Barb Fortini (Capt.), Al Best, Debbie Evans and Guy Godman with a score of 1200 points. The Third Place Team was John Fortini (Capt.), Sid Pomainville, Mike Darling and Joyce DiPietro with a score of 1120 points.   Everyone received a little bit of the prize money including our lowest scoring team of Gerry Bousquet (Capt.), Martha Ebert, April Shaw and Tim Pergrim with a score of 630 points.

The Top Scorers for the day were:  Randy Radke and Bob Tager who tied with 400 points, John Fortini with 390 points and Sid Pomainville with 370 points.

All in all it was a fun day with many of our very new and more experienced members trying to overcome the wacky shuffleboard challenges. Once again we must thank Allen Best and our Volunteers for enabling us to have a FUN DAY! Please come back and join us next month for more fun and games. Ciao!

The Northern District M/L nonWalking Singles Tournament took place in Deland on February 22nd and 23rd.  Forty-Seven (47) shufflers took part in the tournament. On Thursday Twenty-Seven (27) men and Twenty (20) Ladies started out playing singles, women against women and men against men, for 12 frames with the winners moving on to the next bracket. We played all the games till eight men and eight females remained to place.

Friday morning we arrived for the finals where each male was then paired with a female shuffler. We appreciate Jack Wooten, Director of this tournament, for another well organized ND event.  We also appreciate the Deland Shuffleboard Club for providing their well prepared shuffleboard court facilities.  Thanks to all the 14 members of the CM Shuffleboard Club who participated, with a big shout out to the winners. Congratulations!

This Saturday, Feb 24th, is FUN DAY. Please Remember to sign up in the Cue House so we know how many Hot Dogs to cook. It is open to all members of the CMS Club. Come test your skills and luck against the obstacles we place on all 20 courts. There is a $1.00 registration fee which includes a hot dog lunch. Teams that place in the First, Second and Third positions will share in the winnings. It is great fun, so come on down no later than 9:45 am to be assigned to a team and enjoy the camaraderie! After the games we will have hot dogs, chips and drinks in the club house. See you there!
