The Coronado/Mainland Shuffler

On Thursday 10/30/25 the NSB Leisure Services group including Michelle Fitzgerald, Rob and Jonah and 33 other attendees held a meeting in the community Center. They asked if they could experience what shuffleboard was like. Mike Beall set up the whole event with Bonnie, Randy, Gail and Suzanne assisting. We had 28 of the group practice shuffling under our guidance and 8 more as by-standers.

ND07 has the date 11/10 and it should have been 11/17.

This is the Leesburg Shuffleboard Club’s last tournament on Oct 30^th and it is the Bob Brandt Memorial Tournament which was begun two years ago by Dave Dean to honor his friend, Bob Brandt.  There is a plaque for the winner’s names and Gail Howell will be making her pulled pork sandwiches.  Hopefully many will come to play in their final tournament before they are closed down on Nov. 7^th.

The Leesburg Shuffleboard Club held their final tournament on Oct. 30th in honor of Bob Brandt. Bob Robinson was the director and the sponsors were, Yvonne Alberg, Lilly Delosier, Al Dronsfield, Cebert Wealth Management and Suter Air Conditioning. Congratulations to all the shufflers.

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform all of you that we have lost a very close friend and long time member of Deland and Orange City Shuffleboard Club, Roger Vandevender.  Roger passed away October 13th in Elkins, WV.  

Roger was a dear friend to many of us – past and present.  His witty remarks, heartwarming laughter and love of the game brought us joy and will forever remind us why we, like him, love this game.

The club will be making a donation to plant 3 trees, in his memory, and as such will symbolize Roger’s impact on us all:  past, present and future.

We believe Alice and her sister Pat will be spending the winter in Florida, however, no details as yet.

Sadly our long time member John Fortini has passed away!

John Edward Fortini, Jr, 78, of 563 Caro Court, New Smyrna Beach Florida died Monday, October 20, 2025 at the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida where he was admitted on October 15, 2025. Please see John’s obituary published on Legacy.com by Baldwin Brothers Funerals & Cremation Society – New Smyrna Beach on Oct. 28, 2025.

Leesburg is packing all of our shuffleboard equipment and belongings on Saturday, Nov. 1^stbeginning at 8am.  Any shuffler who would like to help with this process is very welcome.  The city is providing a storage area along with their Christmas decorations.  We just need to move everything there until we determine what will happen in the future.

Northern District President Joe Inga congratulates Earl Ball on getting his 1400 career points making him the all-time leader in the shuffleboard community. Earl Ball achieved this accomplishment attending and placing in 1st place men’s main in the State FSA open tournament held in Leesburg, Florida.  Al Dronsfield was his partner.  Congratulations Earl

I apologize, I just realized I did not report the first State Tournament of the season in the Northern District. It was held in Hawthorne on Oct. 13th. Congratulations to all the players.
