Mardi Gras Parade – Mar 5, 2019

Arlene took some festive pictures of our club’s Mardi Gras attendance. They met at Tom Grubb’s house to decorate the float and then went to the parade which proceeded at 7 pm from S. Atlantic Ave down Flagler to Pine. It was rather cool and brisk last night but Ten (10) members attended. They had a great time tossing beads out to the crowd while representing our CMS Club. It looks like they had a lot of fun!

Intercity End of Season Tournament – Mar 4, 2019

Deland Shuffleboard Club hosted the Intercity End of Season Tournament and lunch. We all met at 8:30 am in their meeting room while Richie and Carolyn assigned our Line Numbers for Group A & Group B (based on averages). Christine said a prayer before we Pledged Allegiance to our Flag.  Richie then explained the rules of the tournament before we drew for courts.   The winners of each match recorded their scores before drawing for new courts.

We played three matches and then took a break for lunch. Richie and Caroline had prepared a delicious ham & sauce which went with the coleslaw, potato salad, chips and a drink.

After our lunch, we drew for  two more matches and then came inside for ice cream while Richie tallied up the scores.

There were thirty-two (32) players on the A Group and twenty-four (24) players on the B Group.  The winners were:

A TEAM
FIRST:  Barb & John Fortini,
SECOND:  Christine & John Giumarra,
THIRD:  Dennis Buelk & Tom Grubb
FOURTH:  Sigrid Reichert & Darrel Harman

B TEAM
FIRST:  Jan Dally & Arnie Fischbach
SECOND:  Anne & Gary Shay
THIRD:  Arlene & Jerry Jabaut
FOURTH:  Louise(Honey)Donnelly & Milt Wordelman

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS AND THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED.

Group A: John & Barb Fortini

Group B: Arnie Fischbach and Jan Dally

The Executive Board Meeting was called to order at 10:00 am. Thanks to Honey for supplying the donuts and Marguerite for preparing the coffee. Seven (7) Board Members were present with only Johnnie and Dennis absent.

We discussed the following subjects which have been previously posted.
The Mardi Gras Parade and our support of the SPARC Program.

The meeting was adjourned and after a brief break the General Board Meeting was called to order at 11:00 am.

The General Board Meeting was attended by the seven Executive Board members and Eighteen (18) regular members. Congratulations to Felix Piscitelli for being voted our newest Life Member. Bill Boyes took charge of the re-election of our two Board Directors, John Fortini and Jerry Jabaut.  We discussed the tickets for the Annual Banquet, which are now on sale, and our CMS Club advertisement in the Preview (Northern District publication).  I will post the minutes from both meetings as soon as they are completed.

The meetings were adjourned and we then played our three regular rounds of shuffleboard.

Mardi Gras Notice for this Tuesday, Mar 5th

Please Note: Those interested in helping decorate the float should meet at  the club house at 4:00 pm where we will also distribute beads.  From there we will proceed to Tom Grubb’s house across from the courts to decorate the float. We will then all gather at 5:30 pm in front of the Oceania Condos at 421 South Atlantic Ave. Please wear bright Mardi Gras colors (purple, green, gold) and if possible masks and hats for the fun. The parade will begin at 7:00 pm and usually takes approximately an hour to finish. We will be carrying signs and cue sticks. Beads will be thrown to the crowd along the parade route. Lots of fun and laughter. Come join us. See you there. Ciao!
