The Coronado/Mainland Shuffler

So last night we finally had enough people back from vacations, etc. to hold our monthly Pot Luck Dinner. We were happy to welcome Twenty-Two (22) shufflers and guests to the event. Tom Carbonell welcomed everyone and Allen Best let us know some more information about Don Nephew’s passing. We had quite a few new faces in the crowd so Tom had us all introduce ourselves. Joan Best then gave the blessing and we all lined up to gather our edibles. So many wonderful dishes to share and it was all so good. Tom drew the 50/50 raffle ticket which Jim Jacobsen won.  Thanks to all the folks who helped set up and clean up the club house for the dinner. We all had a great time and enjoyed talking about our latest summer happenings. Hope you can all join us again next month. Ciao!

Allen Best just notified me that Don Nephew had passed away this afternoon after a long illness. Barb will be taking his body back to Plattsburgh, New York for services and burial. If I find out more information I will post it. Don was a very active member of our club and he will be sorely missed. Our prayers are with Barb and the family.

The usual clean up crew arrived to set up the courts for the Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge. Twenty-One (21) shufflers showed up for the challenge. We were pleased to see Richie and Carolyn from Deland here to play. We played four matches recording the winners of each match before drawing for the next match.  We congratulate Dennis Buelk and Bonnie Radke for winning all four of their matches. Our August Pot Luck Dinner is scheduled for Friday, August 16th at 5:00 pm in the club house. For all new members please remember to bring your plate, cup, silverware and BYO beer or Wine. Lemonade and tea will be available. Please sign up in the cue house to let us know what dish you will be sharing so we know how many people will attend.  Also please let us know if you will be staying to play Bunco. Today was the Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge. I was unable to attend due to visitors, but Dennis and the crew carried on. Twenty-One (21) shufflers showed up for the challenge. Donna and Rod even brought Cliff along all the way from Mid Florida Lakes to join us. Johnnie surprised us by finally making it back to Florida. The weather was fine and the courts were fast. Six (6) players were able to win three of the matches, but because there were so many good players, no one was able to win all four games. The usual morning clean up crew arrived to prepare the courts for the Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge. The clouds were growing larger and we waited to see if it was going to rain. Twelve (12) shufflers showed up to play and after waiting fifteen minutes we decided the storm had passed and started to play. We were able to complete one full round of play and had just started our second challenge when the rain began to fall. We decided it was going to rain for the rest of the time so we called the game due to rain. Hope to see you all back here next week for another Challenge. Ciao!

The usual clean up crew arrived to clean and dry the courts for the Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge, but the weather looked questionable. Only Eight (8) shufflers showed up for the challenge due to the weather. We drew two courts with partners and played only two games when it started to drizzle. We even tried drying the courts when it stopped part way through in hopes we could continue. Sadly our games were rained out. Hope to see you back again next week for a new challenge. Ciao!

Mark Engel sent me this notice and though I did not know her, I am sure our older competitors in the Northern District did. We sadly announce that FSA Past President Landy Adkins passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 16. Her daughter, Dawn, has informed me that her remains will be cremated and taken to Indiana. Per Landy’s wishes, there will be no memorial service.
