Singles Mingles today

Dennis, Randy and Bonnie set up for our Singles Mingles competition this morning,  Many players we thought would come to join us, were not able to come.  Today, we had only eight Amateurs and eight Pro/State Ams come to play.  I believe that this way of playing will help our amateurs become more comfortable with the game.

Pros/State Ams
First Place: Bonnie Radke with 293 points
Second Place: Randy Radke with 281 points
Third Place:  Charlie Jones with 215 points

Amateurs
First Place:  Vaughn Long with 298 points
Second Place: Jack Koppelman with 222 points
Third Place:  Barb Hale with 198 points

Hope to see all of you next  Wednesday at 8:45 am.  Let’s see if we can’t get some more participants to show up.  This is really good practice for our tournament on the 14th.  See you on the courts.

Randy and Bonnie (Charlie didn’t stay)

Vaughn, Jack and Barb

In – House Tournament, Oct 14th

Hello folks. I am sending out a confirmation regarding our in-
house tournament scheduled for Oct 14. The format will be a
Pro/Am Draw. Before play each Amateur will draw the name of
their Pro partner for the day. At the moment we have almost
equal amounts of Amateurs and Pros signed up which is great.
We could use a couple more Pros. I believe this tournament is
very important to train our new players and I am excited that
we have so many planning to play. We can take up to 20
players in each category.

All players need to be on site by 8:30 am and sign in with
Bonnie Radke. Sign in closes at 8:45 sharp. No exceptions. Play
begins at 9am. Cost will be $6 per player. We will pay prize
money to the top three teams in the main and consolation
groups. This works as follows.  If you win your first match and
lose your second you are out. If you lose your first match you
go to the consolation group and play until you lose. Please do
not leave without checking your final status with Bonnie.

Please come prepared to spend most of the day. Bring your
drinks and a picnic lunch. We may need to finish the finals on
Friday morning so please clear your schedules.
Because this is an in house tournament and because of other
concerns, your Pro partner will be able to wax discs as needed
or to add beads, etc.  Normally, this is the responsibility of the
tournament staff only.

If you want to play you must sign up by Saturday , October 9.
The sheet is in the clubhouse. Please do not sign up if you are
not sure you can commit to a full day of play..
We are looking forwards to a fun day!

More Fun In The Sun

Dennis  and Debbie set up for another practice Single Mingles today.  Once again, we only played three games and there was no entry fee. I think everyone had a great time and quite a few of the players said they would come NEXT WEDNESDAY AT 9:00 AM AND PAY $2 ENTRY FEE AND WE WOULD PLAY FIVE GAMES.  The top three Amateurs and the Top Three Pro/State Ams win the entry fee money.  Today, we had ten amateurs show up for the fun and eleven Pro/State Ams come to play.  I believe that this way of playing will help our amateurs become more comfortable with the game.

Pros/State Ams
First Place: Debbie Evans with 261 points
Second Place: Rex Galusha with 147 points (3 games)
Third Place: Randy Radke with 170 points (2 games)

Amateurs
First Place:  Dave Helverson with 250 points
Second Place: Tim Pergrem with 230 points
Third Place:  Vaughn Long with 219 points

Hope to see all of you next Wednesday at 9:00 am.

Wash, Wax and Clean the Courts

Mike Beall organized a group of volunteers to help Wash, Wax and Clean our courts today. He had already blown all the dirt away, weed wacked the edges and then power washed the courts. This morning Mike, Arlene and Jerry Jabaut, John Fortini, Zak Wonson and Dennis Buelk came early and waxed the courts. Arlene washed and cleaned all the scoreboards and they were finished by about 9:30.  Thank you so much to our volunteers and Mike, our very productive Court Manager for helping to keep our courts so great to play on.

MINGLES/SINGLES & TIPS

Some fun information and tips from Zephyrhills Shuffleboard Club

Because Mingles/Singles games are limited to short, 12 frame games, you only need to have more points than your opponent when the frames run out to win, but because of recording the winner’s scores for final result tie breakers, a little different strategy is required.

A For-Fun Singles Mingles

Wednesday, Dennis, after almost two years, ran a trial Singles Mingles play day. We only played three games and there was no entry fee. I think everyone had a great time and it gave us something new to work on. We had ten amateurs show up for the fun and only four Pro/State Ams come to play.  Dennis is planning to run another trial Singles Mingles next Wednesday and we definitely need some more Pro/State Ams to show up and play.  This is a chance for our amateurs to watch and learn from our pros while playing a fun game.

Pros/State Ams
First Place: Randy Radke with 178 points
Second Place: Dennis Buelk with 106 points
Third Place: Debbie Evans with 42 points

Amateurs
First Place:  Jack Koppelman with 194 points
Second Place:  We had a tie;
Clint Buczkowski and Bill Van Note with 120 points
