The Coronado/Mainland Shuffler

Today was the scheduled fundraiser for Little Pink Houses of Hope at Lost Lagoon Wings and Grill, located at 2004 North Dixie Hwy, New Smyrna Beach, FL. If you told your waitress you were there to support Little Pink Houses of Hope, they donated a portion of your bill to the cause.  Randy and I went for dinner and it was very good. We also saw Diane Woodhams and her son Thomas enjoying dinner as well.  We understand a larger group of CM Shuffleboard Club members headed by CMS President Allen Best attended an earlier luncheon. Thanks to everyone who participated to support the fundraiser for Breast Cancer survivors and their families.

Erika’s remnant showers and thunderstorms interrupted our Sunday (8/30/15) shuffleboard play time this morning. We had to squeegee the courts off twice between games, hoping the stormy rain clouds would pass, before we finally gave up and called it a day. Disappointed Sunday morning regulars Charlie, Dennis, Tom, Pete (the hammer), Randy and Bonnie all look forward our next opportunity to play.

Today dawned bright with the potential for an overcast morning. Thirty-two(32) ebullient players showed up to shuffle at New Smyrna Beach. Four shufflers, Stan Williamson, Phil Wade, Walt from Deland and Bonnie Radke won all four of their games. Bonnie, with her winning smile, was the only one available to have her picture taken. One of life’s most simple pleasures is spending a fun time with those who enjoy a friendly game of shuffleboard.

Friday, August 21st, twenty-one(21) members came together on a beautiful evening for a Pot Luck Dinner that was followed up with a fun game of Bunco. Everyone brought something to share, the food was great and some of the beverages were intoxicating.   Allen Best (President) led off the dinner with Joan Best leading us into the dinner prayer.  A few new members of the 44 recruited this year also participated in the dinner.  Bunco had 19 members and one ghost seat.  Allen awarded the prizes from Bunco to the following; Randy Radke for most wins, Guy Godman for most losses and Wayne Lockwood and Gerry Bousquet tied for most Buncos.  Allen also distributed numerous Bunco door prizes to some of the remaining lucky participants.  Over all, the evening was a great success and we all look forward to our next Pot Luck Dinner,which will be scheduled sometime in September.

Just a reminder not to  forget that we have our Pot Luck Dinner tonight and it starts at 5:30 pm to be followed by some friendly Bunco.  For our new members attending most people bring their own silverware, cup and plate.  You can also BYO something to drink.  Iced tea and water will be available.  Can’t wait to see you there.

Twenty-six(26) good-humored players enjoyed today’s Thursday Morning Four-Play. Everyone was keen on playing their games that produced some good natured competition. Tom Rimmer won his four games for the third time this season and appears (see picture) to be very content with his accomplishment.

We are pleased to announce that we have had 47 new players sign up to Shuffle Along With Us. Please give a hearty welcome to all our new members who have joined the club so far in 2015. A list is posted in the clubhouse, so if you see someone new, say Hello.  We are now a club of 192 members strong, including our Social Members.

Thursday Morning Four-Play was attended by a total of 26 avid participants. We played through only two (2) games before mother nature greeted us with a shower that brought about a late morning rainout, causing us to clear the courts. This was a typical summer shower that usually shows up in the afternoon.

On Tuesday and Thursday nights we play shuffleboard practically in the middle of New Smyrna Beach off Flagler Avenue under the lights. Members bring their partners, family and friends to enjoy a stimulating evening of shuffleboard leading us, through sunsets and dusk, into the refreshing night air. This past Thursday night, in the summer doldrums of August, was no exception. We had four courts in play enjoying each others company with a lot of fun and laughter. Come join us (weather permitting) when we kick off our summer evenings of shuffleboard play at 6:30 pm every Tuesday and Thursday. The matches usually end at approximately 8:30 pm.
