Reminder About Christmas Pot Luck Dinner

Just a reminder that this Friday, Dec 18, is our Christmas Pot Luck Dinner. It would be appreciated if you could sign up in the club house on the list by Wednesday in order for the club to know how much meat (HAM, which the club is supplying) needs to be ordered and so that we do not have too many duplications.  See you there to share some holiday cheer.

If you don’t cook, you can pick up something at the store, what you bring is not so important as that you come join us. Please sign up on the list in the club house so we do not have too many duplications. See you there to share some holiday cheer.

CMS Club Member Profile – December 2015

Ben Sharman became a member of the Shuffleboard Club 12 years ago and was a past CMS Club Vice President for 2 years before becoming President of the CMS Club for two years. Ben and his wife Elizabeth started coming to New Smyrna Beach (NSB) from Bethesda, Maryland in 1980 for only a couple of months before finally moving to NSB permanently around 19 years ago.  They have been married for 46 years and have 2 children and 3 grand children (twin boys and a girl).

Ben was born in England (British citizen) 89 years ago, Elizabeth was born in Malaysia, their daughter was born in Indonesia and their son was born here in the United States. Ben immigrated to the US in 1949 and became a US citizen. He met and married Elizabeth in Switzerland, spent time in the Peace Corp teaching technical high school in Jamaica and among many other consulting endeavors (with a brief visit to Harvard), Ben became an International Trade Union representative. He and Elizabeth also took the ultimate cruise ship vacation by traveling around the world on the Queen Elizabeth II. What makes Ben’s accomplishments even more remarkable is the fact that he hadn’t even graduated from high school. If you have a little time, sit down with Ben to hear about any number of interesting stories from a man who truly has a far-reaching global life experience.

Inner City Shuffleboard

We have been having such a good time with the Inner City Shuffleboard competition. This is my first year and I was not sure what to expect. The home team supplies the coffee and cake to be enjoyed when we are done playing. We have found the other cities are so friendly and seem to be enjoying this competition as much as our club. This year we have three colored (teams) with many different playing teams in each group. There is the Red Team, the Blue Team and this year for the first time we have a White Team (the team I play with) Al Bessette manages the Red Team, Mary Ann Pabst the Blue Team and Rich Kordeleski the White Team. It is a lot of work so I would like to personally thank them for all their hard work. Today was week four for all the teams. The White Team played the Red Team here at our CM Shuffleboard courts and the Red Team won 8 games and the White Team won 4 games. We look forward to playing Deland next week in Deland. The games are played every Wednesday at 1:00 throughout the Winter, so come on down and enjoy all the fun.
