Executive Board Meeting – Saturday December 3rd, 2016

On Dec 3rd we held our monthly Executive Board Meeting at 10:00 AM with seven board members present. The minutes will be posted at a later date.

Some Highlights: We discussed our 80th Anniversary plans, the annual banquet (which will be held March 11th), club anniversary shirts and other items promoting our club. We also discussed an 80th Anniversary Celebration Day (to be held Saturday, March 4th) that would include non-member participation in friendly shuffling matches so-as to give the public at large an appreciation for the game of shuffleboard and our historical significance to the community.  There will be a sign up sheet posted in the cue house asking for volunteers to help with this event.

It was confirmed that the Northern District Masters Tournament will be held at the CMS Club courts on March 23/24 followed by the Masters Banquet which will be held at Quail Hollow.   Al Best confirmed that he will follow up with the city on the current status to repair the court roofing and also verify if our resurfacing of the courts was approved in the city budget.  Paperwork will be filed for the club’s participation in the NSB city’s February Mardis Gras 2017 parade.  We adjourned early and set up for the General Members Meeting.

Florida Power and Light Event Visitors – 11/15/16

Tuesday afternoon between 4 pm & 6 pm on Nov 15th, the CMS shuffleboard courts were the site of an enjoyable and amusing corporate event. Florida Power and Light (FPL) held a two day conference at the Hampton Inn and twenty-six (26) enthusiastic employees participated in a friendly fun filled two hour shuffleboard competition. They made a generous donation to the club for the use of the courts and the efforts made to give them guidance and encouragement.

Dennis Buelk, event organizer, and Crew arrived early to prep and set-up the courts with  enough cues for all the participants. When they arrived, Dennis gave them a short lesson on how to play, score and have fun. They split up into teams and played on six courts. Lots of laughter and comical competition to see who could score for bragging rights (just like our own Fun Day). One of them commented, “I now know why the old people enjoy playing shuffleboard”. At 6pm the FPL shufflers departed for Happy Hour at the Hampton Inn to reminisce about their shuffleboard experience. Four of the FPL participants enjoyed themselves so much, they returned after Happy Hour and joined our  regular Tuesday night shuffleboard matches under the lights.  A good time was had by all!
