Pete “The Hammer” Peterson, an authentic Floridian, was born in Daytona 73 years ago. Pete, a veteran, was in the service of our country for four years in the Navy. After serving, he became a logger and subsequently joined the Florida Forestry Service to help care for our state’s forests. Among other forestry skills gained, Pete battled forest fires on the front lines by driving a tractor to make the fireline that kept fires from spreading. He worked his way up to become an elite “Strike Force” Fire Fighter. After 25 years of being exposed to radiant heat and flying cinders in the forest service, Pete retired. In 2004 he joined our shuffleboard club with the support of fellow CMS member Ben Sharman and in due course, Walt Vilk. Participating in the shuffleboard tournament circuit lead up to Pete becoming a pro a few years back. He has two children and six grand children. We are appreciative of Pete’s camaraderie and grateful for his service.
