Bob Finta noted that in this morning’s paper Elsie Boning, aged 94, had passed away on Monday. She was 94 and a long time member of the Coronado Shuffleboard Club. She was a tireless worker in the kitchen and a regular player until arthritis in her shoulder prevented her from playing. She always had a smile and a pleasant word. Rest in Peace, Elsie.
On October 3rd, 2017 the CMS Club held the 28th NSB Annual Senior Games Shuffleboard Contest. Rich and Candy Kordeleski, Randy and Bonnie Radke, Johnnie Conner and Betty Buccini arrived early to set up the courts, discs, scoreboards, cues and sign-up sheets for the Sixteen (16) seniors who signed up to shuffle. Candy made the coffee, Betty brought the orange juice while Michael from NSB Leisure Services brought the complementary donuts.
We luckily had eight women teaming up with eight men. Participants drew chips to get their team mate and court assignments. Each shuffler played four games of twelve frames each. At the end of each game, the winning team recorded their scores. We totaled up the winning scores after all four games were played to determine the Men and Women’s Gold, Silver, and Bronze finalists.
WINNERS:
MEN: First Place – Rich Kordeleski with 221 points; Second Place – Al Schroth with 169 points; Third Place Tie between Guy Godman and George Karras with 167 points each.
WOMEN: First Place – Betty Buccini with 237 points; Second Place – Connie Bousquet with 150 points; and Third Place – Johnnie Conner with 144 points; We returned to the club house to congratulate all the participating shufflers and award the medals to the winning finalists. Bob Finta would like me to please mention the passing of Pat Tucci. Pat was a member of Mainland and later of Coronado. He was a fine gentleman and a good player. I always enjoyed playing against him. He was 93 years old. We haven’t seen him in several years. Rest in Peace, Pat.
Patrick T. Tucci (1922 – 2017) | Visit Guest Book
Patrick T. Tucci passed away on September 21, 2017. Born in Ridgeway, PA on April 14, 1922. He served in WWII from 1942-1945. He moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1995. Patrick was a lifetime member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Sons of Italy. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley M. Tucci and grandson, Jeffrey M. Cooper. He is survived by his son Patrick L. Tucci, Sue Cooper and her husband Terry, and great granddaughter, Paige M. Cooper. A memorial will be planned for a later date.
We start our 2017/2018 Singles Mingles Season on Tuesday October 10th which will be presided-over by Dennis Buelk. Singles Mingles will be held on the Second and Fourth Tuesday of the month, promptly starting at 9 am. We request participants to arrive by 8:30 am in order to process their $2.00 Entry Fee. Collected fees will be returned in the form of Prize Money for First, Second and Third place winners in the Amateur and Pro categories. Today was the Final Day of the season for our Thursday Morning Four-Play. The expected crew showed up to prepare the courts for match play. Thirty-Two (32) ardent players showed up to challenge each other on the shuffleboard courts. We only had the following three shufflers who won all four of their matches, Tom Rimmer, Christine Giumarra (from Deland) and Darrel Harman. Congratulations!

Ron Raymond was unable to set up the courts this morning due to an accidental broken wrist (get well soon Ron!). His crew showed up to set everything up to play. Today was the first time visitors from Deland and Orange City tried our new discs. Twenty-three (23) eager players showed up to shuffle. We had three four match winners. Congratulations go out to Darrel Harman, Tom Rimmer and Rex Galushia. Next week is the last and final week to play Thursday Morning Four-Play this season. We hope to see you there. Ciao!

Tonight we used the new discs and they were great and really fast. Please note that the new discs had not been waxed. We set up a form for us to use so that we can use all the discs in rotation and get them broken-in and ready for competition.
As you use the discs please put a CHECK MARK AFTER THE NUMBERED DISC CARRIER YOU USE. (See posted disc use list on wall) You do not need to use the discs that correspond to the court you are playing on. If the discs have not been previously used, PLEASE WAX THE DISCS BEFORE YOU PLAY. Please see the following form to understand what we are doing with the discs. If you play on court 13, you can use any discs you like, just put a check mark next to the disc carrier number you use. If you have any questions, please ask a fellow shuffler to be sure. Thanks for your help.
Today was “clean up day” and Nineteen (19) hardy shufflers showed up to leaf blow, wash and wax the courts. We also moved Wayne’s New DISCS into the Cue House, washed out the erasers, scoreboards, windows and floors while cleaning out the leaves and debris from around the courts. Allen Best set us up in the Club House to take a break for coffee, cold water and donuts before finishing up.
Most of us showed up by 9 o’clock and were done by 10:45 am. When you have a great group of eager volunteers getting busy, the tasks get done quickly and efficiently. A GREAT THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE SHUFFLERS ABLE TO COME OUT! Tonight for the first time, we get to play with Wayne’s New DISCS . Hope to see you there. Ciao!
