The Coronado/Mainland Shuffler

Please note that as the season has started, I am once again posting the Masters Points on our website under 2020 Masters Points. The point schedule has changed this year. You now receive 5,4,3,2 2,1,1, 1/2 points for your wins.  I am using a (*) to notate a players participation in a tournament.  You must participate in five tournaments in order to qualify with points for the Masters.

I also will be posting partner requests on our Bulletin Board section.  Please let me know if you need a partner.   Good luck this season.

Thursday was the beginning of our Northern District Tournament season. Deland hosted the Any Doubles Tournament and Rod Lewis and Steve Smith were our directors. The results were as follows:

The Northern District has asked me to let our members know about the Golden Age Games being held in Sanford. Nov 1 – 10th.   For more information Click Here:  .  This is similar to our Senior Games in October.

Please note that it is Time To Pay Your Dues for the season. All members playing in the tournaments for Northern District and State need to be a paid member of a club.    The first State tournament is in Hawthorne, Oct 1st.  You can pay Bonnie, Dennis, Arlene or Tom.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

People keep asking me when we start afternoon play.  From our website!
“The Coronado/Mainland Shuffleboard Club “winter” schedule starts November 1st: Daily play begins at 1:30 pm Monday thru Friday and Saturday play though out the year is at 10:00 am (except on Board Meeting Days). We also play Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:30 pm all year long. Members are advised to be 15 minutes early to help prepare the courts for play (sweep, bead, put out disks, chalk, seat-pads etc.)”

The usual clean up crew arrived to clean the courts and ready them for the last Thursday Morning Four Play Challenge of the season. We had Twenty (20) shufflers show up for the challenge. After playing four matches, recording the scores after each match and drawing new courts and partners, we congratulate Edna Triplett and Mouse (Bob) Wolven for winning all four of their matches. This was the last game of the season.

We start Singles Mingles for club members on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 at (8:45 am) 9:00 am play.  Singles Mingles will continue through the playing season on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.  The entry fee is $2.00 per player which is then divided among the winners.  Hope to see you there.  Ciao.

Mouse and Edna

More very sad news. Louise “Honey” Donnelly passed away on Sept 18, 2019. (3/7/1933 – 9/18/19) Honey was an avid shuffleboard player for many years and had been a member of both Deland and CMS Clubs. She was always here helping out and giving everyone a big welcoming hug. She will be sorely missed by all. Her obituary can be found at Legacy.com website.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 5, 2019 at 11am, First United Methodist Church of Deland, 115 E Howry Ave, Deland, FL 32724. Luncheon to follow in the Life Enrichment Center.

Tom Carbonell over-saw our Friday night Pot Luck Dinner this month. Looks like we had ten (10) members come to enjoy the good food and camaraderie. Tom sent me several pictures to post. Hope we can get many more members to attend next month, now that Fall is upon us and the shuffleboard season will begin. See you next month. Ciao!

The clean up crew arrived this morning just as it started to rain. When it stopped, we dried and cleaned the courts for the Thursday Morning Four-Play Challenge. Twenty-Three (23) enthusiastic shufflers showed up for the morning challenge. We played our four matches, recording the winners and picking new partners each match. When the final game was played and the dust had cleared we owe congratulations to Tom Rimmer for winning all his four games. Next week, Sept 26th is our FINAL THURSDAY MORNING CHALLENGE OF THE SEASON. Hope to see you all there. Ciao!
