Leesburg Fourth of July!

Sorry such short notice, but come join Leesburg!

Leesburg is having an evening shuffle on Friday, July 4th from 7 – 9 pm.  The city is having their fireworks show at the Venetian Gardens at 9pm and the fireworks can be viewed from our courts.   We would love to have our shuffle friends join us that evening.  Bring your own drinks and if you want a snack to share.  Happy 4th of July.

Sad news from Ormond Beach Shuffleboard Club!

Ormond Beach long time member Cliff Drapeau was 91 years old and was born in October 1933. He’s lived at 166 Deer Run Lake Dr in Ormond Beach, FL since December 2003. and he passed away on April 27, 2025. He served as President of the Ormond Beach Shuffleboard Club 2018-2019 and was involved in the Inner City shuffleboard tournaments for many seasons.

I know since I left the Ormond Beach club things have gone downhill. We are selling our house in Ormond Beach and moving back to Connecticut to be with our family. I will miss all my friends from the Northern District Shuffleboard Club, it was enjoyable playing with you all.

Sincerely,

Jerry Barr

The New Look at CMS

The paint job at the Coronado Mainland Shuffleboard Courts is coming along very well. Unfortunately the paint needs 72 hours to cure so we will have to wait until at least Tuesday to play on them. We will still have shuffleboard regular play on Monday on courts 18 thru 20. Please do not walk on the new courts or use them until after Tuesday. Love the new color, it is so bright. Thanks

Let’s Have Fun In Leesburg!

Hope all is well in your part of the world.  We are doing OK down here in Leesburg and would like to invite other club members to join us on Friday, May 23rd for a fun morning of shuffling followed by a pot luck luncheon.  We’d like to see our shuffling friends before next tournament season.

We are having a fun event to play beginning at 9:00. We will play four games of 40 minutes each.  The loser will pay the winner of the game $1.00.  Players should b ring four-dollar bills.  All players will record their scores and the top scorer will win a gift card.  Following play we will have our pot luck luncheon.  The Leesburg club will have hot dogs for everyone.

Please have the players let me know if they can attend so we will have adequate hot dogs for everyone.  My email is chelfer@specialtyhose.com or my phone number is 352-446-5575 to text or call.  Hope we can have many friends join us.

Doris Hanke

I apologise, to our players who knew Doris, I posted the notice on the Northern District, but have several people ask me on the Coronado website,

It is with a sad heart we want to let everyone know that Doris Hanke passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday. God rest her soul! She was a very special lady.

She was a fantastic shuffleboard player who will be sorely missed. This photo is from a tournament in Nov 2022. She and Sharon Upson beat Stan and John Giumarra. She was inducted into the Northern District Hall of Fame in 2018 and was inducted into the International Shuffleboard Hall of Fame in 2023

End of Season Farewell Pot Luck Dinner

On March 11, 2025, the Coronado Mainland Shuffleboard Club held their End of Season Farewell (to our Snowbirds) Pot Luck Dinner. Many of our Snowbirds start heading back up North so this is our final Pot luck for the year. Jan and Bill Sweet set up a wonderfully festive setting for our Pot Luck with the help of Arlene Jabaut, Gail Kadar and more (whom I may have missed). We had about 38 people show up with representatives from Deland and our Mahjong group. We had a 50/50 drawing and then drawings for gifts that were donated by the club. The food was fantastic and plentiful and the socializing was great fun. We look forward to seeing everyone back here next year. Safe trip home! Sorry this did not get posted.

Good Bye to Old Friends!

This year we were saddened to hear that our friend David Nitchie had passed away. He was so close to receiving his Hall Of Fame Jacket that the board voted to award it to him posthumously. The following are pictures of the NDSA presenting Dave Nitchie’s daughter, Pam and son-in-law, Guy with his HOF Jacket.  Also pictures of the Dave Nitchie plaques which will now be presented to the 1st place winners of the TOC for the Men’s/Ladies Pro Division presented by the Leesburg Shuffleboard Club.  The other pictures are of Fred Newman and Patty Foster being given going away gifts for all the work they have done over the years for the Leesburg Shuffleboard Club as they will not be returning back to Florida.
