The Hawthorne Shuffleboard Club hosted the first State Tournament on 10/10 and 10/11.  Congratulations to all the players who came for the challenge and especially those members who represented the Northern District.  Rod Lewis was the Director and All FL Roofing was the sponsor.  So, for State Tournaments, only the Northern District is posted, please visit the FSA website for more information.

NO TWO PROS tournament initially to be played at Tavares next Thursday and Friday Oct 6th and 7th, has officially been canceled per president Walt Bartels.  There is no makeup tournament planned or scheduled at this time.

I am sending this for Walt.  He is still having difficulty with his computer.  

The Tournament scheduled for this Thursday Sept 29 in Deland is canceled due to the Hurricane that is coming through.   Please notify all of your members and stay safe.

 We will all look forward to the having our first Tournament in Tavares October 6.

Our club needs to thank Mike Beall for the wonderful job he is doing keeping our courts in shape. Here he is waxing and cleaning the court for our coming tournament season.

I have been changing our website, so I apologize if this is a repeat.

We would like to thank our sponsors for their continued support of our club. Tom Grubb and his partner Cheri Samon from St. Pete, just participated in a tournament at the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Chicago. There were 64 teams and they made it through to the sweet sixteen in Consolation. Tom had a lot of fun and got to meet Earl Ball, an old partner of Stan Williamson’s. Today we held an in-house tournament with a few guests from Deland in addition to Rod and Donna from MidFlorida Lakes. Cindy, Zak, Jerry and Arlene arrived early to set up the coffee, donuts and along with our court manager Mike Beall, set up the courts for play. Bob Augusto and Vaughn Long donated the water for the day and Janet Shira donated the donuts. The day could not have been more beautiful with just a touch of wind. Cindy and Arlene along with some assistance from Bonnie, set up the charts and the list of entrants in the tournament. We had twelve (12) Pros and (12) Amateurs sign up for the challenge. There was a small entry fee and $100 donated from the club for prize money.

The purpose of the tournament was to help train our new directors, so Rod came to check that we had it all in hand. Everything went so smoothly. Cindy was our main director with Arlene as treasurer and co-director. We played twelve frame games so we could finish in one day. It was a draw tournament with Pros playing with Amateurs. Congratulations to all the players on a great game played. The results were:

Please note that due to a lack of participation for the lessons and a change in our regular play time, the separate lessons on Mondays will be suspended until the Fall. Please remember that although regular lessons are cancelled, Mondays are days you are allowed to come and get “coaching” from the members you are playing with. Other players are always willing to give you pointers. The best way to learn is to play with a Pro or more experienced Amateur.

On Friday April 22nd we will begin a new monthly tournament schedule. Zak will award the prize money from the March tournament then. Thanks for your patience. Ciao!
