The Coronado/Mainland Shuffler

Thursday, Oct 14, our monthly Pot Luck Dinner had Sixteen(16) peckish CMS Club members show up to socialize and relish some fine edibles. Allen Best welcomed a new member, Jean Clark  and another member to be, Georgie Ann. Joan Best held a 50/50 drawing and Mr. Lucky, Gerry Bousquet, won once again (CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!). Allen Best also announced the Northern District’s No Two Pros Tournament’s CMS Club participant finalists and then we had a prayer. Subsequently our Pot Luck dinner buffet, with some  great salads, pastas, fried chicken and deserts, was open for self-service.
Allen reminded us all of the Clean/Wash and Wax Day scheduled for this coming Monday, October 17th. We welcome volunteers to show up at 9:00 am to help out. Thanks everyone for another great evening.

On Thursday, October 13th and 14th, nine (9) CM Shuffleboard Club members participated in the Northern Districts No Two Pros Tournament that was held in Tavares with monetary prize distributions for the finalists. Jack Wooten was the Tournament Director and the firm of Edward Jones was their sponsor. The Final Results Main Event, Third Place: Dennis Buelk (Pro) and Randy Radke (Amateur). Final Results Consolation Event, First Place: Ron Raymond (Pro) and Bonnie Radke (Amateur). Well Done!

Please note that your MEMBERSHIP DUES were owed as of October FIRST. If you are participating in any of the Northern District or Inner City tournaments, they must be paid before you play. We have the Northern District Tournament at the CM Shuffleboard Courts next week (Thursday and Friday), and I know many of you enjoy competing in that tournament because you do not have to travel. We also need volunteers who will help clean courts, wax discs and make sure our guests are taken care of. Remember this is your club and it does not run by itself, it relies on all of our club members volunteering to help.  Please sign up in the Cue House.   Thank you.

Due to Hurricane Matthew, not many people could show up today for the CM shuffleboard courts’ Clean Up Day. PLEASE NOTE: IT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR NEXT MONDAY OCTOBER 17 AT 9:00 AM.

We need volunteers to help prepare the courts before the upcoming scheduled CMS Club’s  9/20-9/21 Northern District Tournament. Not all the jobs are physical…any and all volunteers are welcomed. We need people to wash score boards, clean seats, etc. Some of us will be washing and waxing all the courts. We should finish by noon on Monday. Bonnie has already cleaned and painted all the discs for courts 1 thru 16. Monday, after we have finished washing and waxing, Tim Pergrem will be painting the floor to the Cue House. PLEASE NOTE:  THE CUE HOUSE WILL BE CLOSED FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THRU  TUESDAY MORNING, OCT 18. Tuesday nite is still set for night play matches.

Damage to our courts was evident today. We lost part of our courts’ metal roofs and a partial gutter. We also had clogged up court drains from all of the loose debris from leaves and palm fronds. Zak, Joey, Dennis, Allen, Darrel, Randy and Bonnie helped with some of the clean-up. The damage could have been much worse. We are very lucky with this minimal destruction when you consider Matthew’s Category 4 potential fury.

Tuesday, October 4th was the Shuffleboard Segment of the 27th Annual Senior Games. Joe Shebester was the Shuffleboard Official for the games with an assist from Rich and Candy Kordeleski. They all arrived early to prepare the courts for match play. Candy set up the coffee, tables and donuts. We had Seven (7) Ladies and Twelve (12) Men show up to participate in the shuffleboard challenge. Participants each played four games with 12 frames for each of their games.  The ladies had one Round Robin.  Everyone recorded their scores with Joe. The highest scorers for the ladies and men also received their shuffleboard awards from Joe Shebester.  Lady’s Gold Medal: Johnnie Connor, Silver Medal: Connie Bousquet and Bronze Medal: Barb Fortini (left before her Photo Op).  Men’s Gold Medal: Rich Kordeleski, Silver Medal: Tim Pergrem and a tied for the Bronze Medal:  John Fortini and Jim Jacobsen. Congratulations to all!

We had some sad news this morning from Bill Boyes. Our friend and fellow shuffler, Roland Gilles passed away on September 3rd in Wisconsin.   Please see attached obituary notice. The club will be sending a sympathy card.  He will be missed.

After an all night down-pour, helpers showed up to squeegee, dry and prepare the courts for the FINAL Thursday Morning Four-Play matches of the summer season. We had several returning snow birds join in for these final matches. Al Bessette gave a short announcement about the up coming Northern District’s competitive season schedule. Al also gave a hearty shoutout to Ron Raymond and his helper Tom Rimmer for successfully overseeing these summer Thursday morning matches and he asked if we wanted to have Thursday Morning Four-Play matches scheduled again for next year.  The participants answered Al their approval with a hearty Yes.

Twenty-eight (28) devoted players showed up for this season’s final matches. We had Two Four Game Winners: Stan Williamson and John Giumarra.  Congratulations!  We look forward to reporting on our CMS Club members who will participate in the upcoming tournament season. Thanks to Ron, Tom and all the participants for a great summer of Thursday Morning Four-Play matches.
